Kagi Small Web is incredible. It's the best way to replace mindlessly scrolling a social media feed, especially if you miss the old Internet

Think its very dependent on how the rest of your staff is shaping up and whether you can afford to take a hit in some of the pitching categories for another two starts to see if he gets it together

Then maybe the future is platform holders bargain bin hunting for old chips/nodes and building devices around those. Thinking of how Valve was able to repurpose an AMD chip originally designed for Surface

Is the solution to all of this returning to a place where consoles are fundamentally different architectures than PCs again? Has the convergence of architectures actually just made consoles a shittier version of a PC, with none of the advantages and all of the cost sensitivity downside?

I love the trend of people taking LinkedIn job description information as ground truth. Surely, nobody has ever exaggerated or misrepresented anything on their resume before

I think the ideal scenario here would be for regulation of the social media companies. That seems to be completely off the table (because regulation = bad word) so people chase the next best thing in their minds, which is to ban it for kids. It’s also awful for adults in its current form!

“This Is Not The Computer For You” · Sam Henri Gold Sam Henri Gold is a product design engineer building playful, useful software.

I love this post. Like the author, my computing journey started by trying to stretch the limits on what hand-me-down PCs and hardware could do. samhenri.gold/blog/2026031...

Can we examine how quickly things fall apart after you guys ponder the question “is this the year” on a podcast? Feels like this season it was like 2 or 3 days later

Building Out The HomeLab: Photos with Immich A description about my new self-hosted photo service built on Immich

Finally wrote up how I moved my photos over to Immich after using Google Photos for years and briefly experimenting with Ente Photos www.misczak.com/posts/buildi...

Architecture Overview of Ente's end-to-end encrypted architecture—learn how your data is encrypted on-device, securely shared, and safely stored using cryptography.

Ente is probably your best option if you don't want to self host (and they also offer a self hosted version). Their fundamentals are solid ente.io/architecture

It’s fantastic especially if you pair it with Tailscale for remote access. Although it’s a little more difficult to fully replace Google Photos if you like to share albums with external users outside the house

I always view it as type of content vs. just screentime in general. A kid watching Cocomelon is different than them watching a full length Disney movie

Building Out The HomeLab: Proxmox and Tailscale Talking about how I setup Proxmox and Tailscale to form the foundational pieces of my new homelab.

New blog post - starting to build out a home lab beyond a Synology NAS, starting with a mini PC, Proxmox, and Tailscale! I hope to turn this into a series as I continue adding more services I want to self host. www.misczak.com/posts/buildi...

You can install the Tailscale client on your phone and computers and use them to access your server even when you’re not at home. It even has an on-demand feature to toggle on when you leave the house.

There’s a ton of other useful features too - it can even be a reverse proxy with proper certs

Rethinking My Personal Tech Stack Going through what my personal computing stack looks like as we enter 2026.

My resolution this year is to simply write more posts on my blog about a wider variety of topics. With that, I have a new post about how I've rethought the services, apps, and subscriptions I use over the last year www.misczak.com/posts/rethin...

I have been looking to get away from Spotify, but I feel like the current ecosystem of self-managed music libraries/players is...not great? If you're trying to keep a library in sync and accessible over a few devices (Macbook, iPhone, and a Windows computer) the options are basically Apple Music

Maybe I'm missing something but I believe you can do this in Fastmail? In Settings under the "Set Up" category, go to "My email addresses" and you can create an alias that delivers to a specific/label/folder or has other rules attached

I just read your blog post about Ente. I have been running Immich myself since the summer, but looking to offload the sysadmin work. How do you find the facial recognition for your kids on Ente? When I experimented with it last year, I found it was confusing my two kids (and sometimes other kids)
