Thanks. 😊
(I’m so tired!!!!) have collapsed on the couch and now wondering why I didn’t pour the tea first because it’s close to beyond me.
It was a good day. Looking forward to tomorrow.
You can watch Day 2 here.

YouTube links to all three days of the hearing are found here.
kia ora Bevan 👋 in anticipation of the hearing this week, i just began dipping into the Wai 3553 docs on the WT site... can i just say KA RAWE 👏👏👏 and thank you! the 2 April brief by yourself and RM is fantastic reading. (always a great start to a day to hear Moon, Rata, et al taken to task!)
Minister Stanford made a number of misleading statements about the Aotearoa Educators Collective — claims that misrepresent who we are, dismiss the legitimacy of our concerns, and seek to discredit a diverse group of educators simply because they disagree with her.
My friend Guy Claxton has this book coming out on 26 May.
It's a book that challenges "the assumption that mind and body are separate, revealing the interconnectedness of the ‘bodymind’ and drawing on research in embodied cognition to rethink intelligence, learning and teaching."
This is happening on Wednesday and Thursday.
"The Waitangi Tribunal has granted urgency to an inquiry into the government's decision to scrap school boards' legal duty to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and reset Te Mātaiaho, the New Zealand Curriculum."
The pastoral imagination that could only see wetlands as waste is not unrelated to the policy imagination that can only see achievement where it can be sequenced, benchmarked, and ranked.

Kia ora koutou!
Needed a break so went to ground. But I'm back. And I'm raring to go.
This year, it's all about positivity: I'm turning towards the people who are doing good things with learning, with democracy, with life. (If you've been following me, you know what those are).
Let's go!
“To use these tools well — to not be used by them — you need exactly the things we’re told are becoming obsolete. A broad liberal arts education. Domain expertise. Critical thinking. A feel for what humans actually sound like. The ability to spot when something seems off.“
Erica’s claim to have fixed maths is an open goal for any journalist.
On display from both politicians and ideologues hacking at the curriculum is a deep contempt for genuine engagement with systems of knowledge and critical thinking. It‘s one thing to not understand learning; it‘s another to forcibly cut children off from these opportunities.

Stanford played a role in the writing of the senior English curriculum, reviewing documents and providing feedback to Ministry officials on at least 10 February, 14 March and 27 March.
When the Ministry cannot explain how a foreign company won a national contract to hold the learning data of every child in Aotearoa, it is not an administrative inconvenience.
It is a breach of trust.
There is a way to delay the effects of this. And it’s in the Bill.
Tell me about it
Shame on the govt for passing this Bill.
The disregard of democratic process is alarming.
A short wrap of the conference, plus the video of the complete keynote from Professor Pasi Sahlberg.
Erica Stanford wants to link your child’s academic performance to their teacher’s ability to make their mortgage payments.
No. Email. But that’s a good point
When I chased them last week about it, they first said ooops sorry, we’ll reply soon.
But they didn’t relook. Instead, they “reviewed the material with which you have been provided” and were satisfied there was nothing else.
These are the actions of an office that wants to avoid accountability.
Last week, I had an issue with a prior OIA I hadn’t heard back about. I had challenged their “there’s nothing” findings and got stuff about Rata that was in scope.
They said they’d look at the other parts and get back to me. They didn’t.
They say: “there is no requirement under the Act to create information or form an opinion in order to respond, so any questions framed in such a way as to invite commentary, justification or explanation”
Seems they’re taking an extreme interpretation of this.
Heads up OIA warriors.
Erica Stanford’s office are up to all kinds of tricks to delay or deny requests.
Eg. Despite me providing the link to an interview, typing out specific quotes, & asking factual questions about each quote, they are claiming it will be refused under section 18(g) of the Act.
