A sign indicating No Cycling. St.John's
Just from what I've seen reported on here and X, it's almost one child a year at a minimum that's hit by a driver. The fewer of these damned signs restricting kids from using the local inner city trails, the fewer children will be maimed or killed.
I hope this latest child is ok.
My Urban Arrow now has over 8,000 miles on it. Almost every single mile replaced a driving mile, many of them also with passengers. E-bikes, especially cargo e-bikes, can change cities if we let them.
Imagine trusting science to bring astronauts to the moon and back but not trusting science to develop safe vaccines.
A trail marker indicating Crosstown Shared-Use Path.
A trail marked in green through a city satellite image.
Today, for the first time ever, I was able to bike from my neighbourhood to a couple of local schools along a brand new shared use trail! Before now, kids had to either illegally occupy the trail or risk our unsafe streets. People fought against this for years. Well done St.John's NL Canada!! 🥳
“In London cyclists now outnumber cars in the City by 2 to 1. Paris, where they now outnumber motorists across the whole city, is catching up with Europe’s traditional bike capitals, Amsterdam & Copenhagen…In Copenhagen, bikes account for almost half of commuter trips to work/school.” @economist.com

READ: “While I know that driving is a necessity for some, for me, it has been 1st and foremost a habit. My experience of driving less has reminded me that when we can, it’s worth questioning our habits…because what’s comfortable doesn’t necessarily make us feel happy or free.”
How change can start.
We need a vehicle weight tax. If you can justify buying an $80k, 3,000 kg Wagoneer to haul one bag of groceries, taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing your pavement wear and tear plus the added danger to our streets. If you can afford the payments, you can afford to stop asking society to subsidize it.
I have been involved in the assessment of many mines througout my career. Regrettably I can't make the session tonight but I'd bet it will be interesting.
Me walking a bike and a bike lane with two kids sitting on it
Don’t consider myself an advocate, urbanist, activist or part of some fringe group. Just a dad that was tired of their kids losing their childhood independence at the hands of a toxic and normalized car culture
Quite sad that wanting kids to walk/bike/roll safely to school is considered radical.
Americans haven't experienced true war on their own soil in hundreds of years and that's half the reason most of the idiots have no problem with us starting wars elsewhere in the world. They have no empathy or true understanding of the tragedy of war. It's nothing more than something on the tv.
It's only because I have a child (adult now), that I'm not there with you.
I'm thinking that humans are a failed evolutionary experiment.
I externally ask myself if they actually posted that. I internally know that they did. Me nerves 🙄
There's a world where sitting next to traffic is both tranquil and enjoyable. You just have to put the human back in mobility.
The drunk uncle theory.
You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
I smiled every time I saw Catherine O'Hara on screen.
I intend to continue.
She is a legend and a Canadian to boot. ❤️
You're better at it today than you were yesterday.
"The grill of her massive older SUV showed damage to the center of the grill, suggesting the victim was right in front of her in center of the lane"
Taking the lane is our last resort where theres no bike infra
With smartphones we can no longer assume drivers even see what's right in front of them

It doesn't get more Canadian🇨🇦 cliche than this...Eating a beavertail while skating with the kid (and thousands of others) on the canal in Ottawa.
We actually skated to the market, rather than walking, for some bread.
Life works out sometimes 🙂
I look forward to when you're able to get back to that theme - I liked it. In the meantime, it's certainly understandable why you've diverged.
I'm thinking that it's only just beginning. There are some lovely non-alcohol brews out there and I 'think' there is demand for more.
A Michael Crummy novel "River Thieves" standing on a small wall shelf.
Personally, I'm much happier seeing this in my downtown Toronto hotel room than the one from the Gideon crowd.
Congrats Michael Crummy, you've hit the big times! 😁
If I go see Marty Supreme at the movie theater, would it be socially acceptable if I booed out loud when Keven O'Leary is on the screen?
I don't know the reference but Billie Holiday was/is incredible. Strange Fruit is a hauntingly powerful piece, without doubt.
I'm fan of them too. Especially good on ice cream 🥰
Me either!
A pink flower growing from a cultivated rosemary plant
Here's a little more to add to yours. I've been carefully cultivating this rosemary plant for a couple of years and it unexpectedly rewarded me this week with this 🌸!
