Boston Traffic Advisory: I will be wearing shorts during my commute. Extreme blinding whiteness may temporarily obscure vision. Prolonged exposure may cause blindness. Use caution when traveling. Appropriate eye protection (standard welding mask) is recommended.

Innovation in education isn't hitching your caboose to whatever the hot trend is.

Maybe innovation is funding educators who already know what they are doing and want to do a better job.

The class in question, SW-303, exists on the Berklee Campus as an elective for songwriting majors. It is not a core, required class for anything.

That is Berklee Online, but Ben Camp does teach in the songwriting department at Berklee College of Music.

1983: Your personality profile suggests you should be a watchmaker. "Pfftt... a profession with no future. Clearly, digital watches are going to destroy this career."

2026: Me, yelling at a youtube video: "Youโ€™ve knocked the escapement out of beat - did you even *look* at the pallets?"

If you're bad at soldering, I have some good news: you can also be bad at crimping.

Someone convinced me to watch Odd Thomas and it was very very bad.

Voice over exposition.
Very stilted dialog.
Paper thin supporting characters.
Really strange editing.

Need to break a lock? Poof! A grinder!
Need to start a vehicle? Just mate the already stripped wires hanging out!

A router should not be this cute. I need a set of googly eyes.

I despise the constant, grinding renegotiation of things we've supposedly already fought for and won. I'm not talking about anything specific. Just, overall. Everything is "what can we take away from you today?"

It looks like the Akai Pro MPC Sample Now is going to be a huge hit. It is smaller than you imagine and the MPC60 is way bigger than you remember.

I think the damage can take many forms. If you wanted to be subtle about it, just introduce a 'vulnerability' and then let your government know about it.

The US bans all new foreign-made network routers The Federal Communications Commission has released a notice today designating any consumer routers manufactured outside the US as a security risk.

Hey guys, do you have a plan in place here for all the (now banned) routers receiving firmware updates from these (now angry, with nothing to lose) foreign companies?

When I was at <redacted> we connected the MIDI output directly to the audio input of an audio interface to record the pulses so we could measure how accurate the MIDI timing was. Little DC clicks if you listen to them.

I'm sure there is some way to deal with this, but I want to complain and yell at clouds and tie an onion to my belt which was the style at the time.

The current standard seems to be spaces instead of tabs, which is infuriating to me. So, now we have to hit a key four times instead of one time for every indent, everywhere, because there is an edge case somewhere in the past that we need to accommodate.

The whole reason I brought this up is I'm currently in Python land, which allows for tabs OR spaces. Both of which, under normal circumstances, are invisible. So, you can edit some python, but if you use tabs to indent when the file is formatted with spaces, everything breaks.

I love that we had 40 years to think about transporting MIDI on a 3.5mm TRS cable and we were STILL able to launch two incompatible versions.
