when I visit LA now (I grew up there) I get around on public transit. It has come a really long way in the past few decades! Still a challenge but not quite as ridiculous as it once was, should you ever want to visit

The first two books in this are so good at so many levels—as New York Shit, as social novels, but also just as page-turning genre work. I can't wait for this and I recommend Harlem Shuffle and Crooks Manifesto as highly as I can recommend anything.

it's nice that infrastructure hides a layer of abstraction but the layer is still there and it's nice to know about!

it is fun to learn about infrastructure and when you do you can understand better how its failure modes work

"taking my headphones out (sometimes)" is one thing I decided to do after reading @chrislhayes.bsky.social's excellent "the sirens' call"

I have for years had my headphones in constantly, and I've been independently coming around to this point of view
