No math! Dr. Sulyok: “if you do math, I will be mad. - Your math teacher”
K: Have you considered consulting a doctor about that?
Me: I am a doctor. I have a PhD in mathematics
K: No, I meant
Me: and therefore I am an expert in all scientific disciplines
Proud Advisor Moment: My first paper with undergraduate student researchers is now available! Read more about “A mathematical model of Clostridioides difficile transmission in long-term care facilities” in Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering!
Midwest brain activated. Heard a siren and instinctively thought “first Tuesday of the month”. It’s Monday…
Proud Advisor Moment: My first paper with undergraduate student co-authors was accepted for publication!
Guess I have to start telling students that actuary, data scientist, and pope are all good career options if they major in mathematics.
We are excited to invite Dr. Cara Sulyok, along with her students Priscilla Doran, Natsuka Hayashida, Kristen Joyner, and Grace Moberg, for our March Morsel. This research was conducted as part of the 2024 Summer@ICERM Program at Brown University!

Proud advisor moment: Three of @bsteps.bsky.social and my research students shared the progress on the mathematical model that they’ve been working on at MAA MathFest. It’s been a huge undertaking and I’m BEYOND proud of our team and Mackenzie, Nuvia, and Chuckie’s presentation. #MBRG4Ever

Proud Advisor Moment: I already know I work with OUTSTANDING undergraduates with @bsteps.bsky.social, but I’m ecstatic to share that Matthew was awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award at the Annual ISMAA meeting today! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you, Matthew!
The Brotherly Shove is where it’s at!
Just recommended one of my student researchers for graduate programs! (The first of these recommendations I’ve ever put out!) I’m so excited to see where his journey takes him next!
I’m glad I got to help my colleague @drhannahk.bsky.social get into the homies!
You’re such a mathematician!
That’s… normal. Right?
