New documents reveal the U.S. deal with TotalEnergies canceling offshore wind leases actually required no new investment from the company, contradicting the Trump admin’s claims it will lead to new fossil fuel investments

NEW: I've been shocked by some of the numbers I've been seeing on behind-the-meter power plants for data centers, so I did a little math.
less than a dozen gas plants being built to power data centers for big tech companies could emit a maximum of nearly 130 million tons of CO2e each year (!)
ICE in Chicago this morning at Elston and Kennicott—a masked agent tells a witness (on the sidewalk) not to get in front of his car.
Feds are continuing kidnappings across the city & burbs after increased activity this month.
No flashy CBP caravans, just a steady stream of covert ICE arrests.
"They went door-to-door to tell their neighbors what the city had not told them: The data center would use twice as much electricity as all of Monterey Park."
The city’s notification in English reached only 40 people living within 500 feet. Activists worked in English, Chinese, Spanish & more!
"Operation Metro Surge did more to disrupt church services than any single protest at Cities Church.... The pastor of the bilingual congregation Dios Habla Hoy reported that about 80% of his Latino congregation stayed away from church out of fear."

I paid about $1k in tariffs last year to various carriers, such as FedEx and DHL, for importing goods that have no comparable substitutes in the US. I have no idea how I would even get that money back. If a process exists, it will take hours out of my day.
A clip from The New York Times reads: "But only the entities that officially paid the tariffs are eligible to recover that money. That means that the fuller universe of people affected by Mr. Trump’s policies — including millions of Americans who paid higher prices for the products they bought — are not able to apply for direct relief. The extent to which consumers realize any gain hinges on whether businesses share the proceeds, something that few have publicly committed to do. Some have started to band together in class-action lawsuits in the hopes of receiving a payout."
The average American family paid $1,700 in tariffs last year, according to the bipartisan Congressional Joint Economic Committee. Few will ever see any of that money back. The refunds will go to companies, if doled out at all. What a joke.
The solution to homelessness is to provide housing, not encampment evictions or more fences. Addiction treatment & mental health services are most successful when people are in stable housing.
Our city is worse off when commonsense solutions face 16 months of roadblocks from Mayor Frey.
City Council first approved the funding for this emergency housing to be implemented in 2025. The Frey administration refused to implement these vouchers for the entire year of 2025. Minneapolis could have had over 150 people off the streets and into homes last year, but Mayor Frey chose not to.
Emergency Housing Vouchers Budget priority. The solution to homelessness is providing people with housing, not encampment evictions. Addiction treatment and mental health services are most successful when people are in stable housing.
Early this month, City Council unanimously approved an agreement with the Minneapolis Public Housing Authority to finally provide emergency housing vouchers for 50 families and 50 of our neighbors experiencing unsheltered homelessness. The emergency housing is paired with wraparound social services.

Minneapolis residents are now able to apply for rental assistance funded by the City of Minneapolis. On February 5 and March 26, the Minneapolis City Council approved funding to support renter households after the devastating and continued impact of Operation Metro Surge. 1/
We've seen some pretty weak ass anti-tax Strib op-eds, but pearl clutching over a small tax on massive social media platforms is beyond parody.
So glad we have the Freedom Foundation standing up for our rights; I'm sure they are really good faith actors.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
so when people get up and talk about how the city council is out of control, and the mayor's office is "the last check & balance" to THEM, it just shows how effective the media campaign has been to bury the way things actually function in the frey administration

this whole uptown safety ambassadors debacle just shows how powerless the city council is to the jacob frey administration
katie cashman was hung out to dry for 2 years with frey not implementing the program they funded, but suddenly with her gone and elizabeth shaffer in, frey can implement it

Places to sit on Nicollet Mall: 1. Peavey Plaza, lots of concrete 'benches", a few metal chairs, and the blue Adirondack chairs. One of my fave spots in the city.
ahhhh nice weather; time to find out where you can and cannot sit on Nicollet Mall! you cannot sit on this nice stone ledge; security will say "I'm sorry, ma'am, they don't want anyone sitting here."
Unfortunately, the current ordinance subjects people to petty misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges that impact people’s ability to get a job, find housing, and more. This can also have devastating immigration consequences like deportations for our undocumented neighbors.
Let’s get this done! 5/

This ordinance will have positive public health and safety outcomes. 4/
This ordinance was developed and is backed by data from experts with vast experience on the ground and in the community. Syringe service programs reduce HIV and Hepatitis C transmission by an estimated 50%. People don’t stop using needles because their needles are illegal. 3/
It’s not about completely unrelated laws passed in other cities, states, or anywhere else.
Literally all this ordinance does is decriminalize the possession of paraphernalia in alignment with state law. It is about public health and community safety. 2/
In 2023, Minnesota decriminalized paraphernalia. This week we are voting on the Care Over Criminalization ordinance to align Minneapolis with state law.
