most people don't know, most export versions of arcade PCBs were tweaked to be much harder than their original counterparts, konami was especially guilty for this, the opposite happened way less often

That was fast. Took me a good handful of runs to get used to Kunoichi again, but got Kamaitachi my first try. He’s just so damn powerful. Crazy speed and range on top of being able to throw clusters of enemies. The Cody of this game.

You know that a lot of arcade design elements (lives + permadeath, scoring, strict timers, loops, etc.) are valuable because younger roguelite devs who barely played arcade games still recreate them semi-independently. Just because they fill a lot of very unique gameplay niches
-anyway even if there’s no icons or hints. Someone would either datamine or just work out what the abilities do and post it to the internet. I guess having it in English and removing guesswork wouldn’t ruin the game in the long run even tho it removes an extra layer of learning at the beginning.
Yeah I do agree that it can be superfluous. It is a bit strange why it’s only in Portuguese/German. If it is intended to confuse you, then the people who spoke those languages will miss out on the experience of working out what the icons mean. Also, I feel like a guide would have been inevitable-
