97 public libraries in Scotland have permanently closed since 2008.

Libraries are an essential community service, providing far more than just books. We'll ensure councils have the financial backing they need so that no community is left without access to one.

front cover art for Knock's folklore bestiary, OSR version. it shows a trio of adventurers facing a tentacled monster which coils around the edges of the frame, bristling with eyes and pincers. the adventurers - a hooded rogue, a burly knight, and a short, haunted-looking wizard all group togehter, looking daunted.

ink drawing of a figure stabbed through the back by a sword. the sword is in red ink, the figure in black. the figure has a wizened, anguised face, and wears a shaggy cape and hood made from ragged reeds. they have long-nailed hands moving as if to clutch at the blade run through them.

An illustrated map, bisecting several interwoven grass basket buildings clinging to the side of a tree. Small animals like rodents, shrews and hedgehogs bustle around a busy market and show ground, while larger animals like birds peer in through skylights above. Smaller floral chambers are attached to the main hall, overflowing with wild flowers and each occupied by a colourful pageant competing butterfly.

Transparent City by Ondjaki. This book is so funny and human and endearing and then suddenly strange and unsettling, dark and tragic, horrifying and doomed, then devastatingly beautiful again that reading it was a bit like being put in a can and rattled about for 300 odd pages. Incredible.

Owlish by Dorothy Tse. V quick and disturbing read, a surreal, funny, kinda gross story about a middle aged man descending into a fantasy, that has bubbling under it this seething, barbed undercurrent of political repression, authoritarianism and state violence.

walnut ink drawing of a museum interior, based loosely on the interior of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Egypt. A large, modern interior with asymetrical walls and bridges crossing the open space at different levels, melding with more archaic architecture featuring ornate columns and pointed archways. in the foreground a huge statue of a human figure stands, the head and shoulders cut off by the frame of the image.

drawing architecture is the worst thing in the world and I have willingly inflicted it upon myself

A poster for the Sheffield Comic ARts Fair - a girl with a wooly hat wearing a big purple and yellow scarf gazes at a comic book with hearts in her eyes. Her scarf curls up and round to frame text that confirms the date of the event (10th Oct 2026), that it's Free entry, and the location (Trafalgar Warehouse, S1 4JT).

The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin. Just such a clearsighted and engrossing piece of storytelling. for a fairly old representation of weird gender stuff it does an amazing job of gently, compassionately and ruthlessly pulling apart the protagonist's biases.
