Immigration agents arrest Palestinian activist who helped lead Columbia University protests A prominent Palestinian activist who helped lead last spring's protests at Columbia University has been arrested by federal immigration agents.

Pay attention to what is happening to Mahmoud Khalil.

This is a blatant attack on our First Amendment rights, and if you think they’ll stop at criminalizing Pro-Palestine activists, then you’re wrong.

They want to do the same to climate activists — and anyone else who disagrees with this admin.

A vibrant red eft in an S shape digitally drawn in a soft charcoal style is in the lower right corner. Threw forget me not flowers are in the upper right. In the center are the words in handwritten script “red eft omen #14: we will survive, and even thrive, I will make sure of it”. The background is a saturated olive green paper.

A monochrome drawing of a ferret viewed from above with its face looking up at the viewer. The background is a yummy medium warm brown. In a green to pink gradient a handwritten cursive says “it will work out.”

A man jumping, under the words "Make Time For Joy"

Reminder: They're trying to demoralize you, and they're doing a great job of it. Part of resisting is making time for joy despite the attempts to make you feel this is not the time for it. Love your people. Dig the art that speaks to you. Go to the places where life flows into you. You deserve joy.

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Elizabeth Cotten

Elizabeth Cotten

Elizabeth Cotten, folk/blues music pioneer, was born on this day in 1895. She taught herself to play the guitar and banjo as a child. She was left-handed but she played a guitar for a right-hander, meaning she played everything upside down. A little thread!

We’re going to completely miss our climate goals if you continue treating generative AI tools like ChatGPT as harmless.

These tools and the data centers needed to run them are so power hungry that tech companies are quietly walking back on their climate commitments to meet the demand for gen-AI.

Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

Photo taken in cloudy daylight of an approximate 12x14 inch oil painting of a realistic still life on an easel on a table. The still life is set up behind and to the right of the painting. The primary focus of both is a big pink rose in a small clear glass vase, a small plastic white alarm clock, an intricately patterned pink and blue fabric, on a light green surface and black background.
