The misogynist male supremacists, the racist white supremacists, the anti-immigrant xenophobes, the homophobic bigots and the fake Christian supremacists (the Venn diagram is almost a circle) can all go straight to hell. They will eventually. And they aren’t going to win medium-term on Earth either.

But what really blew up Michelle’s employment at the mag, former staffers say, was her response to October 7, after she put an effective gag order on commissioning any pieces acknowledging the genocide in Gaza.

“Michelle told us variously that she was facing pressure from the board not to say anything anti-Israel, and also that she had, in her words, ‘Jewish people in her life whose feelings would be hurt,’” says another former editor. “It was a workplace issue and treated as such. People were saying, ‘This is sort of unconscionable. Like, what are we doing?”

“It’s important to note that in the last year of Boris’s tenure as editor-in-chief, we probably published forty things about the war in Ukraine,” that editor told me. “But Michelle told us we couldn’t even discuss Gaza in editorial meetings.”

At LARB, they weren’t even allowed to discuss Gaza in editorial meetings.

Incredible opinion. It holds that the common ICE tactic of jumping out of an unidentified rental vehicle and seizing suspected noncitizens while masked violates the Fourth Amendment because the *manner* of the seizure is incompatible with a free society governed by the rule of law.

A Fatal ICE Shooting Occurred in Texas Months Before Renee Good’s Killing

At this point, we should just assume they’re lying. But by their own account the kid had no record. US citizen. At the very least, it looks like multiple policy violations — they surrounded the car, fired into a moving vehicle, killed him through the driver’s side window.
