«The "drill baby drill" guy will be remembered as the one that shrunk fossil fuels» pt. 2

Without redistribution, decarbonization stays fragile — and backlash gets mistaken for "technical difficulties."
Justice isn't decoration. It's the strategy.

Everyone talks climate tools — carbon pricing, green innovation, efficiency.
But the one word we avoid explains everything: redistribution.
The richest 10% emit 6× more than the poorest 50% (3.9 billion people).
Top 0.1% emit 77× the 1.5°C threshold.
We thought #housing was finally going to be treated as what it is: a right, not a luxury.
But when you look at what’s actually on the table, the climate part risks becoming the first thing that gets “simplified” away.
🚩A few red flags I’m watching closely:

According to a new report by energy thinktank Ember, battery storage is now “cheap enough in India that solar power can meet 90% of the country’s power demand at lower lifetime costs”

🚨 EU delays Russian oil ban as Iran war spikes prices. December's "historic" phase-out agreement? Shelved indefinitely.
We're choosing fossil fuel addiction over energy security—again. When the world burns (literally), adding more oil is the worst possible move.

It’s unbelievable to acknowledge that this won’t be in the agenda of today Energy Council meeting “because the topic is to sensitive”
I mean, WHAT???
Are you afraid of showing everybody that your Oil&Gas agenda was a total failure, only meant to favor big companies windfall profits??
we are about to face one of the toughest world financial crisis ever: energy prices are surging due to our deep reliance on fossile fuels, which are - as always - very exposed to geopolitical tension.
Thank goodness #renewables were supposed to be the "intermittent" sources.
#FossilFuels got us two energy crises in three years, with devastating effects over both the general economy cycle and the climate

Europe's "competitiveness" debate is missing the biggest cost: €180 billion per year lost from not implementing environmental laws already on the books.
Every year we delay, we pay twice: in damage, and in public money to manage the consequences.

«With the cost of living spiralling out of control, affordability is now the key factor determining whether climate action gains public support or faces opposition.»

The #ClimateLaw has just been approved in the plenary session of the #EuropeanParliament
413 in favour
226 Against
12 abstentions
The final text has been consistently weakened, but still this is the most ambitious and advanced climate law in the world.
Not enough, but something.
molto gira intorno alla variabile della performance reale. Ma - soprattutto se passa il NO al referendum - Vannacci potrebbe spingere il CDX a riformare la legge elettorale vs un proporzionale con sbarramento. Significativo per pesi e contrappesi politici

Extinction Rebellion activists block the entrance to CEFIC in Brussels with signs reading "CEFIC = TOXIC LOBBY", "AREA CLOSED", "CEFIC, COUNCIL FOR ECOCIDE, FAMINE AND IRREVERSIBLE COLLAPSE"
📍HAPPENING NOW
@xrbelgium.bsky.social and activists from Greenpeace Belgium are blocking the offices of CEFIC, the European chemicals lobby group
‼️ 50 activists have declared the area a climate crime scene!

🌍 BREAKTHROUGH! After 5 intense rounds of technical negotiations, we've secured a deal!
Working with @Guarda_Cristina as rapporteur, we transformed 210 amendments into 32 compromises. Exhausting but worth it!
Next steps: committee vote → plenary confirmation.
20bn$ in loss
the cost of climate change is already here
we need mitigation, a strong global adaptation strategy and more on Loss&Damage.
Countries that are suffering the most ain't the bigger polluters

Finally, a (partial) good news! The NRL and the UWWD should be adjusted throughout delegate acts, which limit the democratic expression. Although, given the present political context, opening the whole directive would be too dangerous

And we'll act so concerned—because who could have imagined that this "simplification" agenda is actually a political strategy to roll back environmental policy, right?
INCREDIBLY, centre-right parties in the parliament will find UNEXPECTED cooperation with the far-right to dismantle all the EQS, all the references to climate, adaptation etc etc.
Perhaps even the new standards on pollutants like PFAS in surface and groundwater management, just introduced
“Don’t worry, we are not trying to dismantle the #GreenDeal…
…Just a little bit”
A new #deregulation is on the way about one of the most sensitive framework in the EU.
Although they sell it as simplification to foster their industrial (non-)strategy, we know how this is going.
#WFD
No more ban on gas boilers.
🚨 Ring the alarm: a new attack to the #GreenDeal is on the way.
The #EPBD targets are stile there, but the ban is key to streamline the investments in the right direction: the transitioning away from fossil fuels.

Climate leadership isn’t a press release. It’s rules that bite and timelines that hold. The EP’s vote to weaken the EUDR is a step backwards. Defend the law’s integrity. #EUDR #DeforestationFree
This vote is a shame. The EP just voted to weaken the EUDR. Delays. Loopholes. Shields for traders. This isn’t “simplification” — it’s backsliding. A shameful day for forests and fair competition. #EUDR #Deforestation #EU
BREAKING NEWS: “We are not fighting fossil fuels” has stated #VDL this morning at a press conference in Johannesburg, for the first African G20 Leaders' Summit.
That’s my take as climate advisor👇

BREAKING: EU Commission President @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu says “We are not fighting fossil fuels, we are fighting the emissions from fossil fuels”
She is parroting oil&gas industry lines, pushing unproven costly technologies like CCS + CO2 removals to keep using fossil fuels.
