That's home. That's us.
This image of home just came down from the Artemis II crew.
Taken after their translunar injection burn, there are aurorae at top right and lower left, and zodiacal light at lower right.

A deep-sky image of a fan-shaped nebula, M42, showing a white core, grey-brown dusty structures, and pink and green outer filaments. White and blue-green stars are scattered around the nebua. Taken with a Seestar S50 from Denver, 3/21/26, 15-minute exposure.
We had a nice night with about 130 guests! It cleared up nicely after about 8:30pm. Jupiter looked stunning, as did the Orion Nebula! 🤩
Thanks for turning out, everyone. Looking forward to seeing you again on April 25!

A full disk view of the earth taken by NASA's GOES 16 satellite on the vernal Equinox, showing a shadow dividing the disk into two. The right side of the Earth, including South America and the Atlantic Ocean, is sunlit, while the left side including North America is in shadow. Happy vernal equinox! You may know this as one of 2 dates when the day and night are roughly equal length, or as the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and fall in the southern.
But to astronomers, the vernal equinox has an additional fun significance... 🧪🔭 (1/8)

Interior view of a the Chamberlin Observatory dome with red walls and a gray curved dome. The telescope in the center is long and white, and mounted on a black pillar with many gears and clocks visible. The telescope points toward the open dome slit, where a dark blue sky can be seen outside. People line the walls looking at displays and taking pictures of the telescope.
Hey #Denver, come look through our telescopes on a nice warm evening tonight! The Moon 🌓 and Jupiter 👑 will be good targets even if the sky is somewhat cloudy. Free, no reservation needed, great for kids! 🔭

A wintry nighttime view of a red brick observatory building topped with a silver dome. The sky is dark blue and starry, with the constellation Orion hanging above the dome. A welcoming yellow light illuminates the path and steps, and snowy pine trees frame the scene.
#Denver stargazers, join us for the last open house of 2025, this SATURDAY starting at dusk! We'll point our telescopes at the Moon 🌙, Saturn 🪐, and Jupiter 👑 before the cold front rolls in. Happy New Year from us and @denverastro.bsky.social!

What to expect:
1) The show continues overnight
2) There’s a chance that tomorrow night’s northern lights show is even better than tonight’s (more below).
(Disclaimer: I am not a space weather meteorologist, but the folks below are, and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express)

A night scene of pink streaky aurorae above a lit building
A night scene of pink and green aurorae behind silhouettes of trees and power lines
A night scene of red aurorae with a flamelike structure, behind houses and trees
🚨HEY DENVER, GO LOOK AT THE SKY!!! 🚨
Never seen aurorae this good before. 🤯 They were totally naked-eye around 9:45pm from south Denver, bright red and green. They're coming and going, so if you don't see anything at first, try again later!

Wide-shot time-lapse photograph of DU's historic Chamberlin Observatory at night. Above the dome to the left is Polaris, the North Star, and the other stars of the night sky are circling around it. The building is dimly lit, and red light can be seen in the windows upstairs inside the dome, which is open to the south. Tall pine trees surround the building.
#Denver stargazers: come on over for an open house and star party with @denverastro.bsky.social TONIGHT, starting around 5pm!

A bright comet seen against a dark starry background, taken with my Seestar smart scope. The head of the comet at lower left is fuzzy and faintly greenish; the tail extends to upper right and includes a brighter central streak. The caption labels it "C-2025 A6, 3 min" and gives the coordinates of the observing location.
Hey #Denver, it's going to be a beautiful night for a star party! ✨ Come on over for telescope viewing and building tours with @denverastro.bsky.social! We'll be looking at the Moon 🌙, Saturn 🪐, and at least one comet ☄️. FREE and fun for everyone!

Interior of the University of Denver's historic Chamberlin Observatory. A long white telescope stands on a black pillar in the center of a round room with brick red walls and a curved gray ceiling. The telescope is pointing out an opening in the dome toward a dark blue sky. People are standing around the room waiting their turn to climb a ladder at right that allows them to look through the telescope.
🔭 Heads up, #Denver! Our next FREE star party is happening this Saturday! Come on over to look through our telescopes, tour the historic building, and meet our amazing @uofdenver.bsky.social physics students! ✨
Bonus: Saturn is back! 🪐

Former GCC Astronomer in Residence on the Importance of Public Lands
In this blog series, former Grand Canyon Artists and Astronomers in Residence reflect on the important role America's public lands play in art and science.
I was asked to join in a series of blog posts about the importance of public lands, so I wrote about how the Grand Canyon, and the Solar System, is so much more than a checklist of things to see. It inspires us to ask questions, learn, and grow: www.grandcanyon.org/about/news/g...
