Commentary by Christian Roselund, co-lead of @climateactionri.org's Yes to Wind team -- Cutting clean energy won’t solve high R.I. power costs

"Cutting clean energy won’t solve Rhode Island’s high power costs. To bring down high power prices, we need to accelerate efforts to reduce our dependence on natural gas." Read this commentary from Christian Roselund, Yes to Wind Team Lead in Boston Globe

Whats the real cause of skyrocketing electric bills? Check out this piece by CARI Politics Team Lead Bill Ibelle in Rhode Island Current

COMMENTARY: "If 10% of the state’s energy is produced by wind and solar and 87% is produced by natural gas, which one do you think is responsible for our state having the fourth-highest rates in the country?" By Bill Ibelle of @climateactionri.org
“Delaying the Renewable Energy Standard abandons the linchpin to achieving the state’s emission reduction mandates and renders the Act on Climate and the recent 2025 climate strategy obsolete,” @acadiacenter.bsky.social's Emily Koo said.

As I say here, there is no scientific justification to revoke the engagement finding. In fact, over the last 15+ yrs, the evidence of how climate change affects our health has only grown. Higher risk of allergies, dementia, fertility, heart disease, and death: that’s what’s on the line. @nature.org
BREAKING: The Trump administration's EPA rescinded the 2009 endangerment finding that determined that climate pollution is a threat to public health and welfare and is core to much of the climate policy that followed.
Yesterday, I attended the Clean Energy is Affordable Energy press conference along with leaders in the labor, environment, and local energy developer communities to speak against the governor’s proposed cuts to energy efficiency & clean energy.
Happening now: attending a press conference addressing the rollbacks to renewables and energy efficiency in Governor McKee’s FY 2027 Budget Proposal.
Environmental groups and labor respond to Governor McKee’s push against renewable energy and energy efficiency
"I believe [Dan McKee]’s going to roll back on a lot of these things because, honestly, I think he got some bad advice because the numbers don’t work," said IBEW Local 99’s Joe Walsh.
Yesterday, clean energy advocates gathered for a press event to speak to the concerns and consequences that would follow if Governor McKee’s FY27 budget was passed as it stands today. Renewables are not to blame for our states high utility bills. Clean energy is affordable energy.
Governor McKee's initiative to lower ratepayer energy costs seems more like political theater than effective policy
But that doesn't make the effort less contentious, as environmentalists and business exceutives stake out opposite sides of the issue...

TODAY — McKee is announcing he is going all in on fossil fuels. At 11:30 today he will be joined by plastics CEOs to double down on his proposed FY27 budget that vilifies renewables and ignores that dependence on gas is the cause of sky-high energy bills.
