“World-historical land grab” allowing that it is not “land” but a certain volume of planetary atmospheric space.
Congratulations on your latest book.

The Travilah Oak Tree this beautiful afternoon.
Congratulations to my colleague Chad on the birth of his first book, the product of years of archival research, thinking & writing. Very relevant to our turbulent times.
Confusing that the author is listed as Bernd and named as Graham.
Crazy. That restaurant is in my neighborhood and we have eaten there maybe twice in two decades.
Yet it is remarkably resilient relative to others down the years.
Modesty is for losers!
Big and beautiful bankruptcies only.

RIP Patrick O’Sullivan, the London Irish political geographer (born December 1941) who taught for years at Florida State University.
He wrote on military geography and other topics.
His critique of domino theory reasoning was excellent and included in The Geopolitics Reader.
To my Diadoras, at their end today, for 37 years of fine service 🙏
Assigned @triofrancos.bsky.social new book in my Political Geography seminar. It’s really excellent, connecting frontier community living space struggles to clean energy corporate power & great power competition. Avoids us/them geopolitics: foregrounds an entangled global condition.
Make Great Power land grabbing great again, with (sadly) an Irish twist.

"Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan suggested on Thursday that the protests were being “manipulated” by English far-right figure Tommy Robinson."

A forum on 'Erasure' (from ISA 2025) will appear in the Journal of Genocide Research in the next month or so.
Seriously, the Irish government can't stick its head in the sand as Trump becomes Netanyahu/Putin.

Yes but there's no definitive edition. Gotta be learned through doing, following admired figures, etc.
One possible future scenario:
A former US prez, indicted by the ICC, visits his property in a small European state, amidst calls for his arrest...
Underexplored here is emulation, an apprentice striving to follow a master.
- use state to get obscenely rich ✅
- use 'enemy within' to consolidate power ✅
- create regime oligarchs, punish real journalists ✅
- threaten neighbors, launch wars, commit war crimes ✅

One thing I should like to say on this day which may be memorable for others as well as for us Germans: In the course of my life I have very often been a prophet, and have usually been ridiculed for it. During the time of my struggle for power it was in the first instance the Jewish race which only received my prophecies with laughter when I said that I would one day take over the leadership of the State, and with it that of the whole nation, and that I would then among many other things settle the Jewish problem. Their laughter was uproarious, but I think that for some time now they have been laughing on the other side of their face. Today I will once more be a prophet: If the international Jewish financiers in and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshevization of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe!
Trump today vs Hitler’s infamous Reichstag speech in 1939
Back in day I wrote about a US pilot shot down over Bosnia & a movie with a similar theme.

Great discussion, with Mike Bradshaw (excellent person whom I haven’t seen in years) and Arthur Snell on the “geopolitics of the energy transition” or, if you want to sex it up, on “metabolic geopolitics.”

Trump's affective geopolitics is not unique.
Indeed, I wrote about 'pleasurable violence' at the outset of the Iraq invasion in 2003.
But there Jacksonianism was baked into a Wilsonian offering:

Immerwahr's argument here is very interesting.
Trump's geopolitics has:
- No animating civilizing mission (not 'classic imperialism')
- No chess game strategic vision
- No 'burden of empire'
Its about gratuitous violent domination, unrestrained war criminality.
“Trump truly believes that the US is entitled to whatever resource it so desires ... it’s a real ‘might-makes-right’ logic that is both abhorrent and spectacularly miscalculated.”
