A queue formed early at the door. Lots of “airport gate boarding anxiety” energy. They clearly didn’t do their online check-in. Amateurs.

Remove all the surplus green parts and place the yellow heads in a pint mug or measure. Shake them down but do not press them.
2.3 litres (4 pints)
dandelion heads
4 litres (7 pints) hot water
500g (18 oz) chopped sultanas
15ml (3 teaspoons) citric acid crystals
6758(1½1b) sugar
Sauternes wine yeast and nutrient
25ml (1 fl oz) glycerine
Wine finings
2 Campden tablets
Empty the dandelion heads into a polythene bin, pour hot water over them, add the citric acid crystals, cover the bin and leave to cool. Rub the dandelion heads against the side of the bin with the back of a wooden spoon to squeeze out the fragrant essences from the petals. Repeat this process several times during the next 24 hours. Lift out the flowerheads with a strainer and press dry, then discard.
To the flower water, add the chopped sultanas, nutrient and activated yeast. Cover the bin and ferment the must for five days, keeping the sultanas well submerged in the must. Lift out with a straining spoon and press the sultanas dry, stir in the sugar, pour the must into a fermentation jar, fit an airlock and ferment in a cool place - around 15°C (60°F).
When the specific gravity has fallen to 1.010, rack the wine into a clean jar, add wine finings and 2 crushed Campden tablets. Refit the airlock and move the jar to the coolest place you can find, until the wine is bright and still, in about one week.
Rack the wine into a clean jar, add the glycerine, top up, cork and keep in a very cool place for five or six months. Bottle and keep this wine for a few weeks longer. Serve it cold as an apéritif.

This inspired me to dig out a book to check if it contained a recipe for Dandelion and Burdock, but sadly no. Just the Dandelion wine.

Spotted this pack of cute pooches on the way from my football game last week. The hound on the left looked a lot our wee Bandit. Just look at those snoots!

Just quietly revisiting this prediction. :) I’m very happy for Chris Wood. All that graft has paid off and now he’s mentioned alongside the likes Salah, Haaland and Palmer. Massive achievement.

The very best of luck to my fellow Aucklanders who might be baking their pavlova from scratch tonight.

Hard to argue with your reasoning. Maybe this is the team and place where he makes his biggest mark. Lots to look forward to!

Ah, right. I hoped for better for him. Especially after his move to Newcastle. Sadly not to be.

I expect he’ll want to stay in England for a few more years, but as you say money talks.

Excited for the new Auckland team. Fingers crossed for a decent - non medieval- name.

What’s happening in the EPL highlights that leads you to that conclusion? After had a chance to follow developments lately.

Argh … so many typos in my message. You get what I mean though.

Thanks for the Muses confirmation. Love it! Ah, Rudman Gardens - the grassy backdrop to so many student shenanigans. :)

Really good article, Gareth. Everything is presented as a dichotomy these. Great idea to look back at the so call golden era.

You can see the same principle in action on Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum. The ‘notched’ cornices are designed to draw away water from the underside of the roof.

I saw them at Brixton Academy at about the same time. The crowd called for ‘Sit Down’. “Not on your life” came the answer. :)

Such a great band. Really regret missing their last Powerstation gig which they began from within audience apparently.

Ha! So true. A graphics calculator somehow found its way onto the school stationery list and it ended me. I swear it’s impossible to use.

Chlöe Swarbrick giving a victory speech like a PM-elect (I hope Luxon’s taking notes). And in a few more election I expect she’ll be doing it for real.
