Blood on Her Tongue, Johanna van Veen
2nd book I went into blind that wound up being about a sorta vampire. Also, 2nd wlw cannibal. I liked the not-Vampire almost scifi lore created.
"How horrifying. Is there anything more dangerous to a woman than to be beautiful when weeping?"

THIS DIVA!!! (I know she's awful but also I support women's wrongs)
Hazelthorn by CG Drews feels up your alley! Folk Horror Murder Mystery Friends to Enemies to Lovers Romance between two people who clearly want to devour eachother.
Being Jewish After the Destruction of Gaza, Peter Beinart
A concise & well cited work from a Jewish author who's family has roots from apartheid South Africa. I think this is the purely informational read some critics of 'One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against this' wanted.

Sharks Don't Sink: Adventures of a Rogue Shark Scientist, Jasmin Graham
I chose this on a whim while waiting for books on my holds b/c it's been a hot second since I read a bio & I REALLY like sharks. I LOVED it! Jasmin relating her own resilience to sharks' was brilliant! 10/10

They're going after horror, we said this would happen
What Stalks the Deep, T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon)
Currently the last novella in the Sworn Soldiers series! I love the sort of 'Green' Cosmic Horror of it. I like how each entry in this series is unique in terms of what type of spooky thing is happening. Hoping for more in the future!

I have nothing to say that matches the gravity of the situation. I just want peace and safety for everyone targeted by the insane whims of a madman.
I'VE BEEN ON A WAITING LIST FOR THIS FOR MONTHS. I cannot wait to read it!! I still got like, 20 weeks according to Libby but knowing it's like Between Two Fires makes me more excited.
Innamorata, Ava Reid
Another Gothic Horror Romance! Love Ava's world building, writing, & characters. For adult fans of Juniper & Thorn, maybe not really for folks who only read A Study In Drowning. Check for triggers prior to reading. This is a horror novel so it's, y'know, horrific.

What Feasts at Night,
T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon)
2nd in Sworn Soldier series! I find the writing too delightful to be horrified by the horror. I love these characters & the writing tho & will gladly read a dozen more stories like this.

Small aside in this thread, I've already read 28 books this year! I'm over half way to my goal off 52 total books. The smaller novellas are definitely doing some heavy lifting but also my more frequent 8hr drives allow me to ban out audiobooks like ccraaaaaaaazy #booksky
Hekate - The Witch, Nikita Gill
Comparing this to Madeline Miller would be reductive- the writing styles are totally different- but I do think fans of Madeline's Circe would like this. It's me. I'm fans of Madeline's Circe.

She really said 🥺👉👈
I rarely post my writing, and you have to be logged in to read most of it, but I have some drabble I wrote for Wren here: archiveofourown.org/series/4571047
Wren was the first Trans PC I made in my 'canon' world state (I have other trans dragon age characters but they're not the Main Character)
I haven't been able to draw him as much as I wat to, but he means the WORLD to me. I love my perpetually tired short king who laughs to cope with The Horrors.
What Moves the Dead, T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon)
I'll read something that isn't a novella eventually, but I got off the waitlist for this & didn't want to defer. I know the writing is good when I practically know what's gonna happen & still enjoy the ride. Excited for the next one!

i love her sm
sorry to everyone who followed me for art. i've actually been drawing a ton lately, but haven't posted anyone besides tumblr because *hour long scream*
It's so good! If someone told me this was a traditional Faerie Folk Tale I would have believed them. Amal El-Mohtar really nails the tone and structure for a classic 'faerie tale'.
it's been a great way to catalog bite-sized thoughts on whatever I've finished.
The River Has Roots, Amal El-Mohtar
So beautifully written! Every description is so RICH. Very Tam Lin vibes. And I ADORED the magic/folklore mythos. HIGHLY recommend the audiobook for the singing and folly work.

Morbidly Curious: A Scientist Explains Why We Can't Look Away, Coltan Scrivner PhD
What a COOL book! I checked it out of the library but I wanna buy a copy so I can annotate the shit out of it.

Playing Possum: How Animals Understand Death, Susana Monsó
I put this on my TBR as a sorta exposure therapy & I'm glad I did! Comparative Thanatology isn't a field I knew existed (it's fairly new!) & it was super interesting. The writing style is informative while being entertaining.

A chibi drawing of a woman standing. She has dark hair in pigtails with purple tips on the front strands, light skin, red eyes and is dressed in black and red lingerie.
Something a bit different this morning! A chibi commission from a while back from my friend @ninapedia.bsky.social for their bf of a vtuber he likes! #art #vtuber #chibiart #vtuberart #LPCart
