Does the process run multiple times per hour or once a week? If it's the latter you shouldn't be wasting your time doing that. If it's the former, well done!

I had one of the weirder moments in a weird life last night when I realised that the Black Mirror episode Playthings was inspired by Creatures, a game I worked on in the 90s. Charlie Brooker reviewed it at the time, and apparently it stuck in his head.

That book, and laboriously typing in listings from books and magazines.

That may be due to how I've implemented Facebook audience network in my games, or it could be the way Admob mediates traffic to FAN. But the evidence is that using the Facebook ad network in my games hurt their visibility in the store. That could be a killer blow for many small studios.

I've had a stubbornly high ANR rate of about 0.7% in my recent games. Google have a "bad behaviour" threshold of 0.5% over which they will reduce the visibility of your app on the store. So I've done a test, I removed the Facebook ads SDK from the game, now the ANR rate is 0.26%, a nearly 70% drop!

OMG it's full of jargon Making games for mobile phones is a bit different to creating them for other platforms. For PC and console games your player will usually be buying your game before they download it. In the world of.....

Interested in making a mobile game but put off by all the jargon? Here's a hugely summarised description of how it all works: www.exobyte.net/articles/omg...

Sorry Clive, I support you as my local MP, but I think you're a bit too close to this subject to realise just what poor taste it was to post this.

The best thing about this is it reveals just how incredibly thin skinned these billionaires are, for all their money.

That's their weakness.

I remember these from when I was a kid, and carefully folding them up again ready for the next year.

When I followed this principle 12 years ago to learn Android Java coding. The single screen game I wrote went on to have over a million downloads on Google Play. I still maintain it in production and earn revenue from it to this day. That game was Cherry Chaser Slot Machine.

When learning to code, or even learning a new language, make your projects as tightly scoped as possible. A single screen game with basic dynamics that you finish will teach you far, far more than making a small part of a larger game that you may never finish.

DEC VAX/VMS printer header sheet for a basic game called ADVENT.BAS

DEC VAX/VMS printer header sheet for a basic game called ADVENT.BAS

One of the earlier games I created in my game development journey. This is the header sheet for a printout of a BASIC game that I inventively called ADVENT (short for adventure, we only had eight characters for file names.) This simple text based game was written on my college's VAX minicomputer.

I've used the LibGDX game framework for all my Android games but I'm now trialing moving to Godot for future games. So far it doesn't seem that it will save me much coding time, although that may come with experience. The main thing that attracts me is better potential for future collaborations.

It's more believable when you understand just how much we've poisoned and abused our modern rivers and seas. That throwing nets by hand and pulling them back full of fish animation in Civ is not far from the truth of how fishing was in ancient times

I missed your posts on the other place when it stopped showing me stuff from people I follow and started showing me posts from sketchy billionaires instead. It's good to be back!

Some elder gamers may remember a game called "Valhalla" by Legend software. It was visionary, far ahead of its time, and a great buzz formed when their next game was announced. That game was "The Great Space Race" but it was too visionary, too ahead of its time and the game never matched its vision.

Lucky Journey Coin Pusher Game for Android (Landscape 30s)
Lucky Journey Coin Pusher Game for Android (Landscape 30s) YouTube video by Exobyte Ltd

Our most recently published game is Lucky Journey Coin Pusher. Me and Jen worked very hard together on this together with Norwich based illustrator Andy Carolan doing the artwork. We're really proud of the result and if you like seaside style coin pusher games give it a go!
