As an atheist I'm agreeing the the @Pontifex! Well done!
"Enough of the idolatry of self and money! Enough of the display of power! Enough of war! True strength is shown in serving life. "
It's so good to hear an American say this!
Had the pleasure to talk about 2 works I've been involved (doi.org/10.1145/3672... & doi.org/10.1038/s414...) for young students at Shree L. R. Tiwari College of Engineering and Thakur College of Engineering and Technology here in Mumbai! Lot's of interests! @exeter.ac.uk @exetercompsci.bsky.social
In the post I avoided mentioning specific works; the idea was not to sound accusatory. But if you go to my site rpmenezes.github.io and maybe google scholar you'll find works about inequalities in cities and science of science. If you're looking for specific topics let me know and I'll try to help.
I have some. Which one are you interested in?
Exactly! The only way to not be affected is to have another commodity. Brazil’s prices have only rose by 5% because they produce ethanol for vehicles and all cars in Brazil run on either fuel. What we should do here is invest even more in alternative and green approaches. Not less.
How many times does this need to be repeated?
Here is an Notebook LM (AI Generated) video about our new paper on Computational Urban Science from @springernature.com. Work led by colleagues in Brazil. youtu.be/M_ebK7ZTjGA

Sima Farokhnejad, @ronaldomenezes.bsky.social and colleagues use a vector-field approach to model commodity mobility from sparse origin–destination data. Applied to cattle trade in Brazil, it reveals spatial clusters and seasonal trade patterns, improving disease-spread modelling.
I've decided to have a blog where I can "complain" about various issues! 😀 I'm joking, there will be complaints but also nice thoughts. First one is a complaint though!

Excited to share that our latest research has just been published in Applied Network Science by Springer Nature. The article was authored with @juliotaveira.bsky.social and @fernandobuarque.bsky.social. The article is avaiable here: lnkd.in/eY2aH3p8

This must stop! We cannot allow these companies to do this to children

After a long hiatus, I've decided that I should again have a website. Here is the current state... still some parts to implement

I continue think @plosone.org is trying to make authors go crazy! I've been waiting 2+ months since the acceptance. I received a confirmation saying everything was verified. A person called Ryan McMurray. Then I received a request from Erica Tomas asking for more modifications.
After the Reform Party in the UK, there is now the Restore Party. I see a trend. Shall we have more parties with Re.? Maybe Labour needs a rebrand into ReLabour. Who is starting the new Revamp, Remodel, Rebuild, Remake parties... names still available! #ukpolitics #politics
When I lived in the USA I was a fan of @democracynow.org. I think Amy Goodman and her team are outstanding. But I wonder how she's handling Chomsky name being on the Epstein files since he is often a guest. Anyone know? Chomsky was a hero to me but no longer! Certain things are unforgivable!
Competition to @overleaf.com? Open AI released a latex editor with AI features embedded. And all free. I'm thinking of giving it a try.

NEW: Liam Conejo Ramos, the 5-year-old who ICE agents in Minneapolis nabbed last week and shipped off to a Texas detention facility with his dad, is now in poor health, his school superintendent told me today www.huffpost.com/entry/liam-c...
Well, I'm not even at the stage of paying the APC! They have been looking at the "funding information" since December 17 and I don't know why @plosone.org is taking so long! Never had this experience before with them and it is disappointing as it affects young researchers!
She admits‽ Was this a secret to anyone?
We often are given 15-20 days to review and @plosone.org wants us to accept/reject to handle (as associated editors) papers in 24 hours! It seems strange to me that they take that long. I know we had Xmas, etc. But January is almost over. I wonder if people had a similar experience.
What has been your recent experience with @plosone.org? We had a paper accepted on 17/12/25 and as of today, 28/1/26 they still have not given as a date for the paper to appear? I have written to them 4 times and I get the same answer that says "our colleague is looking into the funding information"
