Hey @buffalonews.com! I’ve been trying to find your coverage of the Trump administration’s destruction of science. You interested in covering a story that has tremendous economic and social impact to our region?

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

Trump funding freeze a blatant violation of Constitution, federal law: Legal experts The Constitution, federal law and court decisions make it clear: President Donald Trump's order to pause federal funding is against the law, legal experts tell ABC News.

It would be fantastic if major federal institutions would acknowledge that the executive branch cannot legally unilaterally cancel or redistribute congressionally appropriated funding on ideological grounds and thus they have no legal obligation to comply with such directives

Big news for the new year! The Wilde Lab is launching @roswellpark.bsky.social. Our focus is metabolism and tumor initiation. We use oncometabolite-driven tumors to study mechanisms of initiation and identify tumor-preventative treatments. Excited to build a team of curious, innovative scientists!

(2/2) This paper describes a shift from epigenetic to genetic-driven tumorigenesis. Tumor etiology and evolution are important, and will be necessary for helping us know the right times to treat with mut-IDH inhibitors. Great paper.

Evolving cell states and oncogenic drivers during the progression of IDH-mutant gliomas - Nature Cancer Wu et al. perform single-cell analyses to explore the switch from low-grade to high-grade isocitrate-dehydrogenase-mutant glioma and show that it is characterized by oligodendrocyte progenitor cell-li...

(1/2) I’ve been happy but puzzled by the recent success of mut-IDH inhibitors. Some tumors lose mutant allele through CNA yet continue to progress, suggesting mut-IDH is essential for initiation but may be dispensable for progression. Seems to be context dependent.

The support network

Just as a starter, here, I present a different angle of networking, one that is often overlooked but equally important (if not even more important): your network of support.
