That was not all Kirk's doing, but he was central in laying the
groundwork for it. I did not know Kirk and I am not the right person to eulogize him. But I envied what he built. A taste for disagreement is a virtue in a democracy. Liberalism could use more of his moxie and fearlessness. In the inaugural episode of his podcast, Gov. Gavin Newsom of California hosted Kirk, admitting that his son was a huge fan. What a testament to Kirk's project.

It's not just that Ezra Klein said that Kirk was doing politics in the right way, it's that Klein said he "ENVIED what he built."

Just think about that for a second. Mask's off, I would say.

As the price of food and basic goods increase, so will gendered violence. So it's great we're in a cultural place where trad wives and conservatism have made such a roaring comeback when women won't be able to do food or caretaking work in this economy.

What Trump’s Tariffs Could Mean for Your Utility Bill Even if oil is exempted from the tariffs the president plans to slap on Mexico and Canada, experts predict a rise in electrical costs. Diversifying both energy sources and models—like offering public ...

The looming tariffs on electricity will spike people's bills almost instantly. That's a disaster. But as we told @newrepublic.com, “we already pay a tariff because of how much corporate profit is priced in, compared to what the price would be under public power.”

I heard an NPR interview yesterday about oligarchs & Musk/Bezos/Zuck/Trump & they were talking about these guys being talented & the potential benefits of them advising government. We have to crush the idea that billionaires are aspirational or necessarily good at anything besides exploitation.

Experts: Israel’s UNRWA Ban Threatens “Backbone” of Gaza Humanitarian Operation The ban is set to go into effect next week, as aid groups are scrambling to alleviate Israel’s humanitarian catastrophe.

Israel's UNRWA ban is coming into effect next week, just as the ceasefire agreement's provision to let more aid in will be ramping up. The logistical framework to distribute said aid throughout Gaza will suddenly disappear.

How to Keep Tabs on ICE Agents Who May Be Surveilling Your Neighborhood Here’s a step-by-step guide.

This is a great piece.

"As deportations ramp up again, we have a choice: We can watch as our neighbors disappear or we can build on these proven strategies to protect the diverse communities we've built together."

Been having a lot of conversations about how to rebuild social cohesion and a sense of optimism on the Left, and the answer lies in design: we need more programs and public spaces to fight alienation.

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.

Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?
