Inside the tunnel near the entrance where there is still quite aot of light.

Inside the tunnel further from the entrance, relying on the subtle lighting provided at thigh height every 8 metres.
Tidenham Tunnel on the Wye Valley Greenway, a former railway line between Chepstow and Tintern, now a fun cycle track feature. Only open in daytime in the summer months to protect the bats that live there. 1 kilometre long!
Pavement parking is dangerous to wheelchair users, visually impaired people and parents walking their children to school. I've just written to my MP today. Join me.

Ignore the deadline. Technically it expired today, but guess what, it’s still here! We have been so busy restoring Warleigh Nature Reserve we have literally not had time to promote the crowdfunder, but we can’t do anything if we go bankrupt so please help!! www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n...
Excellent! I was there too. It was a really intelligently geeky fun show! He's great.
This week is International Dark Sky Week. Since 2020 the Yorkshire Dales National Park has been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve. You can find out what that means, here

Happy World Public Transport Day!
This month, the UK Govt launched its new transport strategy, outlining their long-term vision for safe, reliable and accessible transport for people in England.

Happy #WorldPublicTransportDay!
The day is an opportunity to celebrate the role of public transport around the world, while maintaining momentum for continued progress, writes Isobel in our latest blog:
Thanks! Yes I'd like to try a walk inland from there to Stroud. I love walking canals, and following abandoned canals is particularly interesting and evocative.
A fingerpost alongside a rotating swing bridge (there are many along here), with blue blades for waking times along the towpath. 2 hours to Gloucester Docks and 3 hours 15 mins to Sharpness Docks. The red and white road barrier can also be seen, in the raised position. Grey sky.
A lock on a little disused side branch at Saul Junction, cutting across to the River Severn. There's a simple Public Footpath fingerpost. With a lost beanie hat on the top of it! Green grass and blue sky.
From recent @slowwaysuk.bsky.social walks between Bristol and #Gloucester, including the entire Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which is 16 miles long. #UKCanals #FingerpostFriday
Just got my tickets

and I'm impressed to see events in *43* UK locations, including Crewe and Nantwich
💷 5 quid per lecture - superb!

If the map of deaths on railways looked like this, it'd be treated as a national emergency.
It's always a good idea to keep dogs on a lead at this time of year for the safety of livestock and our ground nesting birds.
Thanks Tom, that's quite illuminating.

A curved shop front at the end of a row of buildings, as described in the post. Two brick storeys above the glass front. The windows were empty at the evening time I photographed it.
Historic Butterworths Jewellers in Rochdale, established 1903, with lovely Art Nouveau flourishes, including the word Co-op, although I'm not sure of the significance. Rochdale is the original home of the Co-op movement though. Maybe @kathrynmorrison.bsky.social knows?
A very very rusty car-van-thing with no doors except a bent back door, abandoned in a field. Crushed bonnet, no steering wheel, no upholstery, just rusted seat frames. Tyres and some wheels also missing.

From 5 April, passengers arriving on the Settle–Carlisle line can continue their journey into the heart of the National Park with new DalesBus connections and without the need for a car 🌿

Wooden fingerpost pointing to tea rooms, waterfalls and viaduct. Lots of greenery behind it.

A stile with three horizontal bars but no step, necessitating a climb. My friend is an ace rock climber so no challenge here!
The nice easy track of the Middlewood Way, which is a former railway line. Symmetrical view along the smooth earth track with grass sides, through a bridge and on into the distance. Simpsons sky above.
Looking along a narrow slippery concrete slope down and through the oval shaped, horse sized towpath tunnel under the road alongside Marple Locks.
A strongly cambered muddy path through the woods. Tree roots cross the path in places.
Pictures from a @slowwaysuk.bsky.social walk on Saturday with a friend who has sight loss. Hazel Grove, Marple, Romiley, Hazel Grove #Manchester. She relished the challenges of cambered muddy paths with tree roots, and sloping cobbled paths. #VisuallyImpaired Please #UseAltText
Silage bales in two different shades of green plastic across the middle of the picture. Simpsons sky above. Yard covered with muddy tractor tyre tracks in the foreground.

A soft gravel footpath along the edge of the woods which are on the right. On the left is a field of sheep.
A grassy footpath between two wooden fences with fields either side. There's a tree at the end, and a green sign prominently pointing the way, saying Footpath.
A lovely earthen footpath with grass either side curving away between tall trees.
Erm... Something more akin to a canal. The path is mud with water on top, and is about a metre wide, with a low brick wall and chicken wire fence on the right, and a muddy bank full of shrubs and broken branches on the left. Ugh! Bonus information - there is a miniature railway track behind the wire fence!
Three inviting paths from @slowwaysuk.bsky.social routes Eccleston to Parbold to Coppull in #Lancashire. And one very uninviting! Bonus information in the Alt Text.
A worryingly rotting wooden footbridge over a stream. Parts of the side fence and several floor slats are broken or missing. Reported to Lancashire Council.
A fine narrow wooden footbridge with a little metal swing gate at one end. The word PULL is imprinted on one side (and PUSH on the other).
A sturdy wooden bench in a clearing in the woods with a wonderful view across the Lancashire plain. Blackpool Tower was visible on the horizon although you can't see it in this picture.
A broken wooden stile leading to a small wooden gate, within a gap in the hedge. All that remains of the stile is the step, like a mini bench. There are several rocks on the ground.
A selection of footpath furniture from #SlowWays walks Eccleston to Parbold go Coppull in #Lancashire.
