The lack of empathy for the killing of a health insurance CEO is more a response to the fact that we don’t a healthcare system, but rather, a disease care system and insurance companies that take advantage of the most vulnerable people and provide no assurance at all.
I hope that if I’m ever killed, the NYPD would be as vigilant about finding my killer.
The holidays are hard for many, and for those of you for whom this is true, I send healing and love. For the rest of y’all, please get your racist cousin, uncle, and aunt at the table. I won’t be to make the case for my Blackity Black humanity so you will.

Exactly. I grew up with a chronically ill twin so I’ve had this on my mind for a long time and am increasingly frustrated by the lack on concern we have for people with disabilities in our nation. I worry what it would be like come January 2025.
At some point in our lives, illness and age have the potential to disable us. Injure can too. However, we still haven’t gotten inclusion right when it comes to people with disabilities. Our futures are someone’s present; so, we’ve got to do better to welcome, protect, and accommodate all.
I do too. I look forward to learning with others and having impactful and respectful conversations too.

I gave a speech in high school about how, instead of letting the haters bring me down, I let their hate motivate me. Of course, that’s no way to live. Always proving. These times, however, call for dusting off that survival skill come January 2025.
