Sounds dramatic, but a goal driven AI will (and they do) develop its own sub-goals which might include preventing itself from being switched off. Not as far fetched as you might initially think as many control systems now have “fly by wire” where a physical switch is merely an input.

If super AI isn’t going to kill us, the idiots misusing average AI probably will.
