🎄While many of us are with family this Christmas, thousands across the NHS and social care are working to keep others safe and cared for.
👶 1,100 babies delivered
🍽️ 234,000 meals served
🚑 21,000 ambulances dispatched
Behind every number is someone there when it matters most. ❤️
On this day in 2020, the UK made global history.
At 6:31am, NHS nurse May Parsons gave 90-year old Maggie Keenan the first approved COVID-19 vaccine anywhere in the world.
A breakthrough made possible by remarkable scientific work and the dedication of the NHS and care workforce.
Just got a note from @nhsbt.bsky.social: my recent donation went to Whipps Cross Hospital.
I’ll never know who needed it, but knowing it helped someone on a tough day genuinely made my week.
Please give blood if you can - each donation can save up to three lives. 🩸
Remembering Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones who died in the Fishmongers’ Hall and London Bridge terror attack on this day in 2019.
Thinking of their families and friends, those who were injured and the emergency services who responded.
I was proud to present the NHS Communications Initiative of the Year Award at the HSJ Awards last week.
Congratulations to @imperialnhs.bsky.social who lifted the trophy for their Call for Concern project.
It was also fab to meet the very funny Rob Brydon!
Gave blood today 🩸
Less than an hour, a cup of tea, a biscuit … and it could save a life.
Winter is tough for donations, but hospitals need approximately 5,000 units daily. If you can, now’s the time to book.
One small act. Huge impact. ❤️

On this day in 1897, Aneurin (Nye) Bevan was born.
He spearheaded the launch of the NHS - a health service free at the point of delivery.
Happy 128th birthday Mr Bevan!
A big thank you to all of the NHS, health and care, and emergency service staff working an extra hour on their shift this weekend.

Graphic with the headline “London is the greatest city in the world” set against a bright view of the River Thames with the Shard, Tower Bridge and the city skyline. The text celebrates what makes London special: regularly voted the number one city in the world, incredible diversity with over 300 languages spoken, world-class transport, world leader in finance tech and life sciences, best museums and galleries many free to visit, world-leading nightlife, food sport and music for every taste, host to the world’s best sporting events, home to seven Premier League clubs, globally-ranked universities, a city where you can be yourself and love who you love, and a place for everyone.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again.
Ignore the haters, London is the 🐐

Today is 999 Day – a chance to recognise the hard work of our emergency services: fire, ambulance, police and search and rescue.
We also celebrate those who support them behind the scenes – from 999 call handlers to the mechanics who keep vehicles on the road.
Thank you all!
Best. Text. Ever.
Please give blood if you can. And if you can’t, please encourage others to do so.
Remember: every donation can save up to three lives.
3/ DHSC is going through major transformation - incl closer integration with NHS England and rolling out the 10-Year Health Plan.
I’m excited to join colleagues and partners on that journey.
Roll on Monday!
📸 Gave my summer blood donation this week - thx to donor carer Bev for looking after me!
2/ I’ve learned so much from my brilliant NHSBT colleagues.
It’s been a privilege to help share the powerful stories of organ, blood, plasma, stem cell, and tissue donation - working alongside inspiring donors, recipients, and staff.
1/ 🗞️ Some personal news!
After an incredible year at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), I’m heading to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) on secondment as Director of Transformation Communications and Engagement.
Honoured to attend the opening of the British Transplant Games at Blenheim Palace.
Wishing the best to the 1,045 incredible transplant recipients - aged 2 to 89 - competing this weekend.
Deeply moving to see donor families there too. A beautiful way to honour their loved ones.
One year on from the Southport attack, we remember Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe & Alice Aguiar.
We hold their families in our hearts, think of those injured, and honour the bravery of the emergency services and a community that stood together. 💙

🎆 Today marks 13 years since the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. 🇬🇧
In one of the most unforgettable moments of the ceremony, the NHS took centre stage. 🏥
A very proud day for the NHS, its staff and volunteers. 💙

“Legacy is not leaving something for people, it's leaving something in people.”
Today we remember Dr Kate Granger who died on this day in 2016.
Kate’s powerful #HelloMyNameIs campaign inspired thousands across the NHS having a huge impact on patients and staff.
Thanks to an amazing response from donors, staff and hospitals, the national blood shortage alert will end on Monday.
Thousands of people came forward to donate, and NHS teams worked incredibly hard to manage supplies.

Honoured to meet the incredible Sonsare Zabadi in Parliament today.
He received a double lung transplant in 2023 - and now shares his powerful story to inspire others to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.
Over 8,000 people, including 276 children, are still waiting.
I was working in the NHS that day and will never forget it.
The bravery of first responders and the quiet heroism of those behind the scenes - blood donors, lab staff, drivers - saved lives and still inspires us 20 years on.

On that dreadful day, NHS Blood and Transplant teams worked rapidly to supply 1,455 units of blood to 9 London hospitals.
25 patients - aged between 2 and 63 - received an average of 17 units each. One needed over 50. Skin grafts were also provided for serious burns.

This morning I joined colleagues from NHS Blood and Transplant and our partners across the emergency services to mark 20 years since the 7/7 London bombings.
We laid wreaths at Hyde Park and attended a moving service at St Paul’s to remember the 52 lives lost and the hundreds injured.

On this day in 1960, the founder of the NHS, Nye Bevan died.
His memorial, which is in Ebbw Vale, comprises 4 blocks of stone - the largest represents Bevan, the others the 3 towns in his constituency.
The stones sit on the spot where Bevan regularly addressed his constituents.
Happy Birthday to the NHS!
You’re not perfect, but for 77 years you’ve supported our nation with care and compassion.
You’ve looked after me and my family - including my brother Mark, who had cancer at 16. He’s now 56 and has twin daughters.
#NHS77 #ThankYouNHS
Happy 88th birthday to 999 - the world's oldest emergency service.
And a MASSIVE thank you to the amazing teams that handle and respond to the calls.
