There's a dog in my coffee! Can you see it?

This was literally me yesterday. Tripped while taking my morning coffee out to the deck, both hands were full, smashed both knees and my head. It was 830am and I felt pretty done for the day.

There are liberals and liberals. Liberalism is a very wide ranging ideology. Liberal Currents should reflect some of that diversity.

True. I read it as "most valuable" not "most valued."

A nice intuitive metric to help us visualise

I'm genuinely curious why you say so. I don't subscribe to liberal currents so am just judging from what you shared, and I obviously misunderstood your point. I (and others, based on the comments) thought you were highlighting a juxtaposition.

A question for you, while we're hanging out: do you like the fact that Bezos has made the Washington Post more ideologically consistent? That's your kinda media outlet I assume, where you don't come across different viewpoints outrageously published together?

Right you are. Thanks for modelling intelligent engagement. I'm taking notes.

You did read my reply you're responding to right? I'll rephrase: there's nothing odd about a magazine publishing pieces written by different authors that argue different sides of an issue. Media outlets don't need to be ideologically consistent. That's the context of my comment. Hope this helps.

Hey Olivia, thanks for joining the chat. Could you say more about that? I'm honestly not sure what's lacking in context for the piece pointing out Trumps miscalculation, but am open to learning from you.

What's cravenly idiotic about the first screenshot you posted?

You know magazines have multiple contributors right? Sometimes even with different views.

This is fascinating

How can organisations get started?

2 good practical suggestions from the panel I endorse (but are often easier said than done): start small, and align your investment strategy (or at least a portion of it) with your grant giving strategy and focus.

I enjoyed the conversation in the Impact Investing for Foundations and Family Offices steam on how new people can get started. Describing lots of familiar dynamics: adventurous grant giving but conservative investing, lack of alignment, confusion about metrics and outcomes.

The Goodstart Learning buy out was just described. This also gets discussed every year. It happened 26 years ago! The fact that it's an example people keep reaching for is an embarrassment for our sector. There should be a ban on using examples more than 15 (10?) years old.

"We are experiencing the greatest wealth transfer in history...."

DRINK!

If I was creating an impact investing summit drinking game/bingo, this phrase would be on it. Someone says it every year! It's always true, because overall wealth keeps growing with inflation.

A big conference room. There are four panellists up the front, two women and two men. There's a banner behind them that says "IMPACT INVESTMENT SUMMIT ASIA PACIFIC"

I'm at the Impact Investing Summit Asia Pacific and might do a spot of live skeeting.

Would love to find any other bluesky people here.

I took my boys to the Women's Peace March in Sydney today, only we were late, so we ended up at an Anti-Logging/Save the Forests March instead, starting from the same place a little later. All good causes!

An amazing contribution to human knowledge.

In a world where people will assume they're interacting with an AI bot, there will be a competitive advantage in being "less professional" and more human to prove we're real, according to Derek Sivers at SOUTHSTART.

It's an insane system, the same used for federal elections. The fix is so easy, just use preferential voting, ie. Instantaneous run-offs.
