And reclaiming slurs is problematic at best. I remember our student advisor of our LGBT+ club said that at a large LGBT+ conference, a large portion of the attendees took exception when the idea was floated to reclaim "queer" as a word that could replace the LGBT+ word salad we use now.
While your point has validity, I have to wonder at the process. It is a lot easier to ban anything resembling inappropriate usage, than to have to check each instance. It does err on the side of concern. I would imagine they take issue with black people wearing a shirt with the n word as well.
While it might be true that they said there was no expiration date, it is also true that companies should reasonably expect prize winners to collect in a reasonable time period, say about a year. The company should not be expected to wait indefinitely for you to get around to collecting your prize.
