🪨 The project will combine new geological observations with numerical modelling to quantify past ice sheet retreat during the previous warm Pliocene epoch (3–3.3 million years ago), which is an analogue for climatic conditions expected within decades.

How vulnerable is East Antarctica’s ice in a warming world? 🧊🌍
Thrilled to be awarded #ARC funding with my stellar collaborators!
We will explore geological archives that record how the ice sheet reacted to past warm periods — and what that could mean for our future.

There are signs the region might be a particularly warm area geothermally, and this can impact on the base, writes Jo Whittaker ⬇️ #blog
