Fungi make so much of life on earth possible—but are too often left out of conservation.
That's slowly starting to change. As it does, a cohort of mycologists across Africa are pioneering the study and conservation of fungi in their home countries. My latest: www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Ozy: dad, what would you say is the greatest thing you’ve ever experienced? Llewellyn: oh, that’s easy. There was this waffle I had once in Belgium. It defies description. Ozy: aren’t you bound by parent law to say “raising you, my dear boy?” Llewellyn: “oh, but you didn’t TASTE this waffle.”

HUNGARY---Victor Orban concedes to this man, Peter Magyar, a cat guy! Bravo to the Hungarians for standing up against dictatorship.
Title: Easter Egg Hunt techniques inspired by great detectives Panel 1: Sherlock Holmes. Deduce the exact location of every egg from seemingly unrelated details without leaving your room. Send your amazed sidekick to fetch them. Panel 2: Jack Reacher Hit the garden hard and fast. Take no prisoners Get back on the road. This approach results in a thrillingly intense hunt, but very few intact eggs. Panel 3: George Smiley Meticulously assess documents, people and motives. Then scrupulously collect the eggs and dejectedly wonder if any of it was worthwhile.

Title: Hunting for Easter eggs with Werner Herzog Panel one: Werner goes out looking for eggs saying “I despise this idiotic sanitized ritual, and yet I am unwilling to return home eggless” Panel two: Werner stands before an egg on the ground “The joy of discovery rings hollow against the monumental indifference of the universe” Panel three: Werner carries an egg “what, other than regret, can hatch from this empty chocolate vessel”
Happy Easter!
Panel 1 A delivery bot on a suburban path says “You don’t always end up where you expect” Panel 2 “It’s silly but I saw myself beside an astronaut rolling across a strange new world” it says as it continues down the path. An alert reads “50m to destination” Panel 3 A had has opened the lid of the bot and taken out a paper bag. “I like to feel useful. Nobody likes a cold hamburger” Panel 4 It continues “So I give every mission my all” The alert says “mission complete” Panel 5 The sun is setting. The bot looks tired. The alert says it’s power is 3% Panel 6 Night. Stars twinkle. The bot is parked in a lot with three others, it has its eyes closed and says “in my dock I dream of space”

I saw the canard that boys don't consume girl-heavy media disproven every single day in my elementary classroom.
There was not a day that I didn't notice a boy reading a novel, picture book, or comic with a female protag or thematic focus.
Make the environment safe and they don't think twice.
Thank you, Portland

Our Great Decisions Group at the library looked at AI last year and an actual AI programmer came. He said that big AI is not the future. He said that AI is good at small data sets. He said that the big data centers will be gathering dust in ten years or less.
@bitterkarella.bsky.social The topic of discussion today at Easter Dinner with my eldest was the new book she was reading. Moonflow. She loves it. In spite of following (& loving) The Midnight Society, I don't read much new horror. Thrilled to hear she loved your book. It's perfect for her.
RIP Jonathan.
Mike Pence got totally owned here: Jewish plaintiffs won a ruling against Indiana's abortion ban, using the law he signed 11 years ago as governor to help evangelicals refuse to cater gay weddings and such. Now similar challenges could win in other red states. We tell the story at @forward.com.
Moomins are always wonderful.
Make like Snorkmaiden and step outside today, some of us are getting a short reprieve from the winter with some warmer climes! Who else can't seem to wait for spring?

1. The largest medical organization in the United States, the American Medical Association, has reaffirmed that gender affirming care for trans youth is medically necessary.
It disavowed the New York Times reporting.
Incredible development for trans youth.
