And yeah, there are influencers on other apps, but I feel like the clock app is just better at feeding into FOMO and parasocial relationships. The Gram fancies their reels a competitor, but they’re delusional. It’s like McDonald’s thinking their McCafe is competing with Starbucks.
As much as I enjoy a lot of the creators on the clock app and think the ban is bullshit, I hope one positive outcome is that some of y’all are forced to come up with your own style, interests and general sense of identity instead of needing influencers to sell it to you.
One of my controversial music takes is that "Thrift Shop" deserved to be one of the most cherished one hit wonders of our generation, that kind of novelty crowd pleaser that kills at every karaoke night, but Macklemore ruined it by having more hits.
