Look, I can only really speak to the first of those but you’re doing pretty fucking great at that. And caring about improving at things means you’re doing a good job at the third of these. Which in turn strongly suggests you’re on the right track with the second.
A phrase I see cropping up surprisingly often (esp. in writing about games) is "core tenants", which only really applies if you're playing, say, Landlord Simulator 2026. It's "tenets", and since that typically describes the main principles of a thing, you don't usually need "core" either.
