I know how original a thought this is - nobody ever thinks about putting how functional our health care system is into words! But my heart was just so filled with American spirit that I was moved to say _something_.

Nothing captures the greatness of America better than 2+ hours spent with the pharmacy app, the health insurance app, the PDFs I downloaded from the health insurance app, the prescription benefit manager website, a phone call to the pharmacy, and the health system app, all so I can breathe normally.

obviously this is bad news and must be fought

but there’s a carelessness and extremity to the framing:

~the planet has received a DEATH SENTENCE~

I just don’t think this shit is how you get people to fight. these frames are how you encourage them to roll over and accept their own destruction

There are so many fucked up things with the current administration that it's hard to focus on one but this recent move is basically a death sentence for the planet. I've been involved with more boots on the ground actions over the years than I can count and this really bums me out.

EPA reverses long-standing climate change finding, stripping its own ability to regulate emissions

the appetite for nihilistic doomerism blows my mind

The below is not from a climate scientist, a policy analyst, or a green energy engineer

it’s a photographer with a high follower count, telling us that now the planet *will* die, with over 3k boosts

apathy and despair, a great use of a platform

Seriously.
Starbucks is the biggest violator of labor law in modern history.
We have the power to tell them union-busting is bad for business.
Don't shop at Starbucks until they do better by their baristas!

If Starbucks won’t respect workers at the bargaining table, they don’t deserve our clicks or orders.

Our call to action is simple:

📱 Delete the Starbucks app. #DeleteTheApp

the worst part about all this happening in Minnesota is that those people are /ruthless/.

They'll shoot you into space and send you cheesy movies, the worst they can find.

*pulls out reporter notebook and press hat*

important question: will we be enlarging everything inside of Minnesota to be proportionally larger as well?

@dark1x.bsky.social mentioned off-handedly on DF that the Dreamcast came out only two and a half years after the N64 came out and that utterly shattered me mentally 🫠

Another vote for darn tough, I switched after two smartwool pairs wore through sooner than I thought reasonable, and they’ve lasted 3-4x as long; long enough to enter the time period where i’d feel slightly weird about using the warranty 🥴

Common things VCs believe
* We’re headed towards war with China, and they’re excited about it
* It’s worse to be kind to trans coworkers than to racially abuse workers using hateful slurs and systematic denial of opportunity
* The rising power of workers organizing needs to be crushed, by legal or illegal means
* Pervasive surveillance of marginalized communities is good and the abuses that arise don’t matter
* Platforms need Nazis on them
* Economic systems which demonstrably help find terror and violence are a net positive for the world
* There’s no systemic bias in funding by VCs

Going through my old notes, this quick list of bullets I jotted down 5 years ago, to explain tech culture to someone outside the industry, really holds up.

@grubb.wtf By any chance is the other series you were thinking of the Journeyman Project series? If not I'd put in a mention anyway; they're quite fun and were made the same studio that did Myst III: Exile - which, while not made by Cyan, is still genuinely great, IMO! and stars Brad Dourif!!

Go is what you get when the designers of a programming language are brave enough to ask the question “what if better things were *not* possible?”

Yeah… while on one level I appreciate the dedication to delivering what they promised, I wouldn’t have minded an optional ask for money so they could keep a normal life ❤️

This would also be _awesome_ for the “hey, I’ve played this game on my PC with mouse and keyboard, but now I’m using a controller on <the couch/my Steam Deck/my Switch> and help me I don’t know what the buttons do” (or vice versa!) scenario.
