We believe in standing up for residents, so we have written to Thirteen 🏡

The response was clear: no - they would not use their voice to call for a rent freeze.

Councils are meant to stand up for residents, especially those facing the greatest pressures. Choosing not to speak up, even when they have the opportunity, is a political decision.

We asked: “Thirteen, the non-profit social housing provider, have increased rents by 1% over inflation year-on-year for 5 years whilst increasing capital reserves to over £800 million. At the same time, social housing tenants face high levels of poverty and deprivation across Teesside which will be further embedded by increased rent. Given this, will the council write to Thirteen and urge them to implement a rent freeze?”

This week I asked Stockton Council if they’d write to Thirteen to urge them to implement a rent freeze, to support those struggling with rising costs 💚

Thirteen’s capital reserves have increased to £800 million, with a surplus of £34 million in just the past year alone.
