An emperor penguin on sea ice with a skeleton of an emperor penguin superimposed behind it
Penguins: short legs, no neck, fat?
Think again, underneath is a bird skeleton!
Emperor #penguins can reach 120 cm (47 in) tall. Their neck and legs each make up around 1/3 of that! Dense feathers provide 80–90% of their insulation along with a layer of fat which may be up to 3 cm (1.2 in) thick.
a penguin skeleton photographed from a slight side-on angle against a black background. the skull is elongated into a pointed beak, the neck is long and S shaped, and the feet are large with long toe bones. The ribs and wings are visible.
Happy #WorldPenguinDay2025 - this gentoo #penguin skeleton in the RAMM collection showcases the fascinating bone structure of these much-loved birds. Gentoos are the third-largest penguin species, after the emperor penguin and the king penguin, and are the fastest swimmers, reaching up to 36 km/h! 🐧
Emperor penguin, Antarctica. The only animal that breeds during Antarctic winter. Males stand in -60°C darkness for two months, balancing an egg on their feet, eating nothing.

Today is Pygmy Hippo Day
Today raises awareness about the endangered pygmy hippopotamus (Choeropsis liberiensis) by educating the public. It highlights the plight of this West African species, with only about 2,000-3,000 Pygmy Hippos remaining in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching.
Zoo update on the female pygmy hippo calf born last month at Zoo Gdansk in Poland~mother Malela is reported to be very protective, frequently covering the baby with straw to hide her. Visitors can see the baby in the indoor hippo pavilion, she weighs 35 pounds, and there is a naming event underway.👶

The vantablack venomous orca I plan on using for the Goji Center Practice Hybrid War. The genome doesn't really give away everything it is capable of :3
This is the results of revising the model into a character named Estrylla. Not sure I'd be able to animate her with that grill :3
I'm not very good at making a character look humanoid in a sculpt... especially when I make a mouth like this inspired by the screwed up jaws of a parasitic catfish and the complicated orifice of the zerg evolution master.
Complex jaw structure
Estylla with open mouth and exposed pharingial jaw.
Character I made because my brain wanted to mix Abathur with a candiru for a very complex mouth...
Lol the hellsite is truly run by morons. I had a post flagged for saying I'd drink some iodine if I saw Godzilla IRL. Godzilla is radioactive.
Photosynthetic patches derived from spotted salamander and leaf sheep sea slug.
Additional eyes from solifugid, additional forelimbs from vestigial theropod and bone collecter caterpillar as well as solifugid and other contributors. Purple in horn and incisors from sea urchin. Lack of enamel on incisors from vampire bat.
Ears and echolocation from vampire bat. Repurposed wing limbs from hatzegopteryx and vampire bat (not used for flight). Body plan derived from modified theropod (Majungasaur).
Basal form (unstable genome from rotifer and glass squid inclusion)
Updated model of Kurtiamatae imperatrix... might not be exactly specimen Tiamat from the initial concept but still uses the Majungasaur base with an eclectic variable genome.
Watching Delicious in Dungeon with the kids and we’re talking about ai and cognitive death.
in an open steppe, a pregnant Shanxihippus bounds into the image for unknown reasons, her long nose bouncing from the force Shanxihippus is a kind of extinct equid (the ancestors of horses, asses, and zebras) from China that had three hooves on each foot (though the central toe was the main point of contact with the ground) and a big saiga-like nose that wouldnt have been prehensile like a tapir's
in the early morning, an Archaeohippus is seen in a forest clearing. it freezes in place turning to face the camera. it has the bay leopard colour mutation, causing the animal to lose colouration overtime in a manner that gives it a spotty appearance, making it very lucky to have survived to adulthood Archaeohippus is a small extinct equid (the ancestors of horses, asses, and zebras) from all across North America that possessed three hooves on each foot, it would've been very similar to small hoofstock like duikers
a Megahippus demonstrates the flehmen response amongst small branches of autumnal leaves Megahippus is an extinct kind of equid (the ancestors of horses, asses, and zebras) from the usa that was adapted for browsing (eating the leaves from taller plants rather than those lower to the ground) it would've looked like a modern horse but with a more boxy head in side-profile and may have possessed a rhinarium (the wet outer-fleshy part of many mammals noses like cats and deer). the flehmen response is a response which many mammals do where they open their mouths in a particular way to expose their jacobson's organ to the most scent particles in the air in response to smells from other animals
by a coastal game trail, a Parahippus walks onto frame out of the waxy shrubbery Parahippus is a kind of ancient tree toed equid (the ancestors of horses, asses, and zebras) from the usa, it wouldve looked somewhat similar to a deer but with three toes, a long (probably) horse-like tail, and a vaguely horse-shaped head
during this week's #Paleostream flocking we sketched Shanxihippus, Archeohippus, Megahippus, and Parahippus to celebrate the year of the horse!!!

A two panel comic. In the first panel, Bex is talking to her neurodivergent friends. As she yaps away, the text reads: wow I'm literally so good at talking to people. Autism who? Social anxiety whomst? I'm so fun and everyone likes me! In the second panel, Bex is stressed out while attempting to talk to a stranger. She says, "wow that's so cool! Omg that's really cool! Cool! That's cool!" While thinking, "oh my fucking God help help help stop saying cool! I'm so boring! I can't believe how terrible I am at this!"
Turns out I'm still autistic after all /j

I'm not stupid enough to click that.
Three cenobites from Clive Barkers Hellraiser series, demons to some, angels others. Weird humanoid beings who have the most extreme fetish s&m vibe going on.
You will be visited by three spirits… who have such sights to show you

This elaborate anti-witchcraft ritual from ancient Assyria and Babylonia involving 15 stones, plants, oils, beer, spells, and the planet Venus can help with various issues.
Among other things, it is for “remembering forgotten things” and “releasing the curse of one whose heart is knotted in sorrow”
