This Roman statutory group depicts the scene from Book 9 of the Odyssey where Odysseus escapes the cave of the cyclops, Polyphemus, by clinging to the shaggy belly of a great ram. His men had escaped earlier hiding beneath suitably smaller, less heroic sheep

Here I was thinking this was a variation on the Romulus and Remus story only instead of two young boys it was a grown man and instead of a wolf it was big sheep.

As a middle class kid, I was one of the "poor kids" at Brown when I went there in the late 1980s. I knew a trust fund guy who got his kicks by shoplifting from a small corner store owned & operated by a Portuguese immigrant. I was like, "in what universe are you giving it to the man by doing this?"

There's a woman who does a whole thing about "gentle parenting" your racist relatives at the holidays and she's hilarious. "Let's keep that thought INSIDE, Uncle Archie!"

If Republicans are really upset about gerrymandering, then they can join Dems in doing something to end it on both sides.

Rep Jamie Raskin tells me he'd be "delighted" to work with Rs on future bills (epic trolling here):

Hire this woman to do our messaging and I don't care what kind of half-a-loaf milquetoast human spreadsheet we nominate in 2028, they're gonna sweep all 50 states and Guam.

Remember when Republicans drew Virginia's Congressional map so Black people were packed into one district and said we should be grateful they gave our community this district. NOW they can have one district and see how much they love it.

Look everyone, Gov Reeves is just honoring an old tradition that stretches the whole way back to…1994, 129 years after the Civil War had ended and, just coincidentally, a year when the Gingrich-led GOP cemented its hold on the white voters of states like Mississippi.

There have been multiple examples of fishy, lucrative Polymarket or Kalshi bets that seem to have been made possible by inside information as to Trump's upcoming statements or actions. It would be great to see a future Dem Congress demand the bank info on those bets to identify who did it.

It's weird to see this silly propaganda 25-30 years after the fact. It's like someone still yabbering about Iraq's terrifying WMD.

Astonishing how much of modern political reporting is just declaring in public that you wake up every day with your mind wiped clean.

The way Tucker is talking about Trump is the way Trump talked about GWB, the way Pat Buchanan talked about GHWB, the way the Reagan boosters talked about Gerald Ford in 1976, and the way the Goldwater fans of 1964 spoke about Nixon and Eisenhower. This is just the right wing ratchet at work.

Taking half as many vacation days does not necessarily equal being on the job twice as many days. And if you’re drunk on the job, you’re not on vacation.

An archival black and white photograph showing—in the foreground—a KTLA television van at the Nevada Proving Ground, with a cameraman standing on the roof filming the CHARLIE nuclear test, while in the background a large white mushroom cloud rises in the distance, as dirt kicked up by the shockwave radiates out from the base. The fronts of several other dark-colored cars are visible behind the van. Three men are also visible not far from the vehicles, sitting on the ground and looking up at the mushroom cloud.

Today in 1952, during Operation Tumbler-Snapper, Los Angeles television station KTLA made the first live nationwide television broadcast of a nuclear test from the Nevada Proving Ground. The test was Shot CHARLIE, a 31-kiloton airdrop from a B-50 bomber which exploded at a height of 3,447 feet.
