Yes the cut to the test with the scanner being at full volume made me leap up. Perfect jump scare and it wasn’t even scary. The sense of unease the film generated was amazing.

I can totally understand and the in camera stuff wasn’t great. For me it was the mothers decent into hysteria and that scene with the incredibly loud scanner machine that were just disturbing, the whole Satanic Panic level added to it massively. Snuck in to see it at 16. It left an impression.

Trust me if you saw it when released and given how extraordinary it was, you wouldn’t be saying this. Withe a modern lens it is certainly not as scary as it was.
