Plan Commission tonight is all about the construction of The Standard at 411 W Gilman with 256 unites (10% affordable at 40% discount, will be 99 beds). Landmarks Com. gave 415 W Gillman, a brutalist apartment building, an A grade.

With regard to builders' architecture the money is generally spent on useless ornament, hideous cornices, and plaster work that had far better be omitted. Flats taken as a whole are a modern development of street architecture that has done little to advance the art. Luckily there are a few exceptions, as some illustrations in this book may prove.
