School shootings are not a mental health issue. They are a gun issue. As a child psychiatrist, I see kids struggle every day—but their struggles don’t put AR-15s in classrooms. #GunReformNow

There is a particular kind of grief that comes with losing our elders.

The slow fading of a generation that carried our stories, our roots, and the sounds of our childhood.

May those who have passed be remembered with love and light.

It retrospect it is surprising that OpenAI released o1-preview. As soon as they showed off reasoning, everyone copied it immediately. They could have waited until full o1 (or o3), but I guess the advantage of continuing to be the leader outweighed the actual edge from the model.

I can now run models as good as the original ChatGPT locally on my iPhone

Among other things it shows: how fast AI is improving, the evolution of open weights models (this is Llama 3.1 8B), the opportunity for intelligence everywhere & the weakness of Siri AI compared to what is possible on iPhone.

"Desirable Difficulties" can be a great tool to enhance learning - seems to be particularly apparent in the likable 'stress' - I particularly like this article from Bjork & Bjork

What just happened A transformative month rewrites the capabilities of AI

Bluesky can be a fraught place to post about AI but it is worth noting that the buzz over o1 (& now o3) is not “hype.” We know o1 can actually do some very hard tasks (see my post) & o3 appears to represent a big further leap.
