The heat pump market shift is durable. Heat pumps outsold gas furnaces for the fourth year in a row in 2025, and outsold air conditioners for the first time ever in September 2025.
Gas costs are rising even as gas use stalls. In 2025, gas bills rose 60% faster than electric bills and 4x faster than inflation.
States continue to advance building decarbonization policies. MN, MA, NY, CA, and other states are launching or considering new policies to accelerate their transitions to affordable, clean heat and cooling.
