Give me an analog out I swear to god. FUKKK

WHY DO I NEED AN APP TO SET UP A SPEAKER?????

It's becoming a trend for apps to, when the brand is having events, have unskippable 30-second or so animations to advertise the event.

Prime day ads on the Amazon app are a good example.

WTF. I am already on your app. If you make it take longer to do what I came here to do I WILL find another app

My fucking apartment's website made it so you CAN'T login via password anymore, it's "Send OTP to email" only.

What. The. Fuck. Why? It's not more secure, it's a pain in the ass.

If you sing poorly enough, you can just claim it's microtonal and that it took you a lot effort to learn it that way.

Gremlin mode: activated

I occasionally feel existential. Aware of my own legacy.

I think about the things I've made from 1-off projects to friendships. Sometimes it feels insignificant.

Then I think about how the vast majority of individuals famous for their actions are also just shit human beings.

Yeah, I'm good.

Most notably in allowing for different peripherals for the task to be always attached

But I like being able to do cross-disciplinary things on one device. I think it being general purpose is part of the point.

I call my main work area at home the "Computer Room"

It's not my "office" or "studio" or "game room". It is all of those things, but I like the idea that it's general purpose, used for all the things.

There are benefits to a computer being treated as a single use appliance:

I am so fukin tired of websites that let you do more from an app than their actual site.

Dear tech companies,

If I am using your tool, I do not need you to give me a full screen pop-up asking me to use your tool. I am already using it.

Shut the fuck up.

Sincerely considering switching to other products,

What really got me to start looking in the first place was it ending every request with a "by the way" that was either an ad or a recommended voice command. You can turn it off, but the fact that got turned on and behavior changed long after they were setup really grinds my gears.

It's very possible to be using the best tool available and for that tool to still be ass.

This is why I enjoy making tools: Creating things that empower myself or others to create better things is what drives me.

I am just so tired of having to talk to it with accentuated spaces. Between. Words. Alexa. Turn. Off. The. Lights.

I'm already planning on replacing it with a local box running the Home assistant stack, but previously hadn't because it worked and I honestly didn't think I could do better.

I never would've thought Alexa getting worse at voice recognition would be what puts me over the edge.

It's not just me, either. My SO and parents have been complaining about it too. We're all from the Midwest, so it's not as if we have an accent that has a vowel shift or blurs words

Amazon's Alexa devices have gotten significantly worse in the last few months. I used to be surprised when a command mis-triggered, now almost every command does. Often playing music or trying to set alarms despite me asking to do something I have a word-for-word matching "routine" setup for.

It's amazing how much code I see that's copy-paste hell or just pile upon piles of technical debt that is making for fires to be put out on the weekly instead of actual progress

It grinds my gears how often people lack care for quality in the craft of coding. I don't care much when it's for some silly personal project, but when it's something safety critical or a large codebase on a commercial product please just give a shit.

Like, unironically, I absolutely can't justify $20/mo on AI BS. But you know what I could justify a $250 yearly license on? Stable software. If you told me I could pay that and get a modern OS with 11's software library but 7's stability and consistent UI, with Linux's deep control? Instant customer

What I don't understand is it can't possibly be good business sense, right? Like, at some point, people don't care about the new features, they just want their shit to work. Why drop billions on AI bullshit when you could invest in making your product un-touchably rock solid.

Error message with title "Something Happened" and description "Something Happened"

Error message with title "Something Happened" and description "Something Happened"

I remember seeing this back in the day, going from 8 to 10. This is not giving a shit. I cant attribute this to incompetence when we see it in program after program. Its malice on the part of the managers and tech firms that prioritize new features over going back and making the shit they have work

14: If there's no way to back it up, fuck off.

That includes DRM/Activation.

15: If an action actually can't be performed because of something else, don't give me a cutesy error, tell me what the fuck happened.

If there is lag in moving my mouse, I am pissed.

13: If an endpoint doesn't have a consistent ID and no way to give it one, it can fuck off. COM# changing? Dynamic IPs? Nah, fuck you. Everything should always be deterministic. In this house, we know what paths go where or they get killed.

etc. - then don't. Just fucking don't.
I care much more about the page loading quickly and not moving after initial draw than your AI bullshit.
12: If the OS ever, ever, ever lets anything lock up the system, it fucked up. The OS should prioritize user input and output above all.

9: If your tools doesn't interop with others tools, it's not a tool, it's a money grab.
10: If you take more than 10ms to do anything UI facing on my computer with a 3090 and 5900XT you can go straight to hell.
11: If you can't do something faster than that because network latency, it's a long task,

If I say I trust this IP I'm directly connecting to without https, do-fucking-not warn me again ever now and then. Fuck. Off.

6: Don't collect my personal info unless you really need it
7: You don't need it.
8: No, really, my real name and photo ID is none of your god damn business
