I do that all the time! I find myself repeating names I like. I can get quite paralysed choosing names - it feels like they have to be just right.

I don’t self publish but I still have the issue that once a book is out there’s this horrible job of marketing it. But I keep that completely separate from the joy of my new WIP. I treat writing and publishing as completely unrelated things.

Maybe shelve it for six months and work on something else. You might feel more fresh and inspired when you come back to it.
Or maybe draft 2 was good enough?

I love Knausgaard; his books are strangely immersive and compelling. I read the Kathy Acker book many many years ago… I always think that even if you can’t remember much about a book, its influence is inside you, part of that wonderful slow cooked soup of everything you’ve ever read.
