This came out of trying to run numbers for solar power at my house. Claude was helpful, but had LOTS of issues around workflow fidelity, slow performance, slow edits, hallucinated sources etc.
This basically fixed the issues I was having, but there very well might be others.
I made a plugin for helping claude / AI agents do any kind of numerical analysis: a workflow to improve input provenance, calculation auditability and observability, and templates for final narrative reports.

I have tried many times to understand this.
Now i feel like i actually do.
Everyone is an engineer now.
It's Time To Maintain
@jdlong.cerebralmastication.com I feel like you'd enjoy this.
I'm now the caretaker of a pond. Which has been revelatory in odd ways.
For example, the lilypad question in the Cognitive Reflection Test is wrong- in interesting ways.
- lilypads are shore-bound, they'd never cover a lake
- they grow spatially, not exponentially

That was perfect.
Bigger picture: Stevenson has a novel where everybody has a personal AI that filters, news and information for them. Everyone exists in a self tailored reality, few use the same code.
Strange to think about that happening with software, but I can see it coming.
Why would I depend on foobar.app when I can make *exactly* what i want locally? Why would I make myself dependent on you updating it, not making the UI purple like I want etc.
A friend is building a `/memory` system how we wants it... because he can.
Obv huge duplication of code, lots of bugs.
I've been thinking about this too, differently.
Among my techy-not-engineer crowd, the explosion has been in private, local tools. A friend wrote a music player UI he wanted, doesn't care about sharing it with anyone.
The lack of apps is because a million cottage apps we can't see are in bloom.
🫡 Reporting for scouting duty sir.
I was with you till "merge into main without a PR".
I will create my status checks and get my green checks, and click the green button with satisfaction, thank you very much.
😉
My kid discovered this last summer walking around at night.
They. Are. Everywhere.
And they are watching you.
I really like this, had a similar idea years back.
Suppose App1 wants data/a field that doesn't exist in Your Data, like "likes broccoli". Then it stores it, and we're back to the existing model.
Any ideas about how to do "recentralization to the user" where Apps generate new data or fields?
Days later I'm still chewing on this banger from @gestaltu.bsky.social

This is fantastic. Well earned.
For this, i think we need a mobile game, very similar to Mini Metro. Very simple, but makes it very clear how workers don't scale and structural bottlenecks are your key concern.
Hey, I was there at 15:38 (the last off peak train) on the same day. Close, but no two-Dans.
What use are 2x6s? I imagine they're borderline scrap wood....
It's funny how distance from problems makes it easier to handle them, whether you're an expert or not.

The k+3 implication is "why offer any course you can llm your way through" AND their degrees aren't worth anything?
Man that's a darker future.
Learn to plumb i guess...
👍 that was my impression too, thanks!
I'm gonna have this problem soon...
Now that you've done the jigs, would you recommend a panel lift?
Reflecting on GhibliGate:
If the "meaning" we value is devalued by an abundance of it, perhaps what was valuable wasn't the quality itself, but rather its scarcity?
Is arts value it's evocation, or that it's singular? NFTs etc

Not just a Cheeto, a 🔥 spicy Cheeto.
- We thought AI would be the super logical Data from StarTrek, we got a very expensive vibes-based parrot.
- Because we over-anthropomorphize, we'll see AGI in randomness, just like faces in toast.
Great discussion from @aptshadow.bsky.social and Sam Arbesman on all things scif, speculative evolution and our short track record in the cosmos.
Love the idea of "cathedral values" where you work on sometime you know won't be finished in your lifetime.
