Why do we need to "Unlock" Middle Housing? Because it's naturally more affordable!
"Research consistently shows that the residents most likely to participate in local zoning debates and special elections tend to be older, wealthier homeowners.......and have more time and capacity to engage in public processes than renters, essential workers, or young families."
Today, @colorado.gov signed the HOME Act into law! Thank you to the bill sponsors, our partners and every single advocate who showed up in support of building more housing Coloradans can afford.

HOME Act passes the State Senate 22-13! Will now head to the Governor's desk!
“America and Canada’s elevators are the most expensive in the world, and the U.S. has fewer of them per capita than any high-income country with available data. Less than 6% of housing is accessible to the more than 30 million American adults with mobility disabilities.” @stephenjacobsmith.com
Working Coloradans are forced into long commutes because they can’t afford living in the communities they work in. The HOME Act (HB1001) would create more housing so that:
🍎 Teachers
🩺 Nurses
🚒 Firefighters
can afford to live in the communities they support. @yimbydenver.bsky.social #HB1001
The HOME Act through Second reading on Senate Floor. One more vote before heading to Governor's desk!
The Road to Housing Act has gotten a lot of attention for banning institutional investors. That ban won't make housing more affordable, but the rule changes around manufactured homes could!
Lets cut the bad parts and keep the good, and get this act passed.
One thing I feel ought to be discussed more is the fact that basically all rural and suburban places in the US are subsidized by cities. They resent cities. They insult cities. They elect politicians who abuse cities. But none of them could survive without cities.
Check out the next episode of the YIMBY Denver podcast. Anna and Lee talk to Sophia Mayott-Guerrero who's leading the campaign in nearby Lakewood to protect their new middle housing code. Check it out on Spotify or on our YouTube channel. youtu.be/WHZEG60tYAY?...
If you signed up for Lobby Day for HOME Act, it is being postponed due to expected bad weather. Stay home!
Considering the way IZ is going in Denver, it might be a good thing if Denver or Colorado legislatures take a look at this.
The HOME Act passes the Local Government and Housing Committee on a 4-3. Next stop Senate Floor. Join us for a Lobby Day this Friday March 6th at 8:15 meeting in the basement cafeteria. Sign up here. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Colorado has the second-worst housing shortage in the country. We need to build +34K homes each year to stop it from getting worse. The HOME Act can help us close the gap. Tell lawmakers to support #HB1001 to create more housing.
Those people are going to need a place to live once they move, so maybe also sign up to do a bit of volunteer work with @yimbydenver.bsky.social

What makes a place feel good to be in?
This watercolor builds a neighborhood layer by layer:
🏡 missing middle
🏪 mixed-use shops
🚌 transit + bikes + people-first streets
🌳 trees + lights + placemaking
❤️ people
Great places are designed, human-first
