The Knick was great but The Pitt is also great and I say this as someone not generally into watching people undergoing invasive medical procedures.

I saw them live once and it was completely mind-blowing.

It's really not that hard to connect the dots Rachel.
What’s a moment from your life, out of context, that’s straight from a movie?
I once hitched a ride to the airport in Beirut with a UN army convoy.
My job now seems to mostly consist of (a) filling in forms (b) waiting for people to reply to emails about how to fill in their forms and (c) providing advice to others about form-filling.
I hope it was great. Didn’t go because it was our wedding anniversary. Much love and respect for PC.
Congrats. This looks excellent.
Shameful stuff from these “protestors”. Consider donating to msoe.ie/donate/ to show your support and to help feed the homeless in Dublin
Geese - Getting Killed
Have resisted the hype up to now but have finally succumbed. Glad I did because this is just marvellous.
Well actually Cartagena is great in that way because lots of folks there don’t speak English at all (unlike many places in Spain). I had some full conversations with people in bars last week with my rudimentary Espanol which was great.
Yeah I know. Being in Spain is the best really but failing that listening to stuff is always good. I’ll have free time over the Summer so going to hopefully find classes to sign up to.
I think I’m A2
And I have to cycle home.
That way lies madness.
Si! Ultimately a more productive use of my spare time. What do you do for learning?
Now on to second pint.
I believe I have just completed the required revisions to my PhD thesis. To celebrate I bought a copy of Acid Mothers Temple’s version of Terry Riley’s In C and now I’m having a pint.
I’m hoping that this implies maybe next year …

Was listening to this earlier and while it seems very apt to the current moment I think I’ll have to switch it out for something less apocalyptic.
True. But it’s questionable whether they do have any kind of model at all really.
This is a terrific essay. Summary: LLMs are not the problem (for once). The problem is the drive towards automation of decision making based on incomplete and inaccurate representations of the world.
"Firstly, a print publication wasn’t enough. Their goal was to enable anyone anywhere in the world to freely access Perceptron and, as such, have perpetual access to Frank’s machine learning and computer vision research and to know who he was beyond his scientific outputs."
Another fun fact: he absolutely loathed buskers.
This thread is amazing, hilarious and horrifying.
Any Dublin based media tech nerds of my acquaintance happen to have a VHS player/recorder they could lend me for a bit?
The free market trumps war.
I think you’ve nailed it.
My God, I now know what my greatest terror in life is: ending up in a nursing home surrounded by other old people all watching and listening to TikTok videos on their phones - a situation that by then is so normalised it’s impossible to ask them to desist.
