Our school is closing at the end of May. Bc of today's referendum (vote YES!), there's a work day. I'm trying to purge & pack.
I have so much stuff & it's all so heavy. I'm going to need eleventy million (or more) boxes.
Anyway...now everything is a mess & I have curriculum work to do too.

My yes vote on this question: Question: Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia's standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?h
Let’s go, Virginia!
I’m off to vote YES this morning.
Just a reminder for those who might be mad about that: We’re only here because Trump decided that gerrymandering FL and TX was a good idea.
To pararphrase the queen, state Senator Louise Lucas, we didn’t start this, but we’ll sure as hell finish it.
Help!
Need to raise $359.07 to buy 10 copies of “We Are Owed.” by Ariana Brown & 10 copies of “The Intentions of Thunder” by Patricia Smith for my American Literature final project.
I will make up the difference, but any help would be appreciated!

Sorry Charlottesville. I took home all of my morning cold weather car line gear on Friday. I can only assume that's why it's so cold this morning.
Not all white women, but damn if it isn't always a white woman. 🙄
PREACH.
Can we extend this to coworkers who ask for mediations over things that could easily have been discussed in person or through email? Asking for no particular reason.
You can't fix something you don't know is wrong.
Math tournament is over. I was done with the student-facing stuff by 1:45, the clean up by 2:30. I'm still sitting at my desk at school because I'm too tired to get up and leave.
So...there's that.
Things that should NEVER have to be said for $500 please, Alex.
...knowing next you'll just forget new things.
Until you remember next year you're not in charge of this event and inside you cheer, even as you wonder how you can build a reading/writing event to be in charge of instead.
At school on Saturday for a math tournament. Realizing you forgot several important things. One of which is going to be a literal mess later.
So...while kids are working you're busy updating your "next year" file with all of the things you didn't do this year for this event...
And they’ve just closed the Strait again.
You are such a rockstar. I’m glad your professor sees you the way we do.

Starting next year I’m all ELA all the time. Someone else will pick up the slack though, I promise.
Everything you've been posting over the past 24 hours is completely ahistorical.
161 years after Emancipation, millions of lives have been damaged by the "reconciliation work" of the UDC. The UDC has had real-world material effects on Black Americans and this nation.

I truly love supporting our math teams for the girls' math tournament this weekend. I do, but I'm not going to lie, I'm also SO HAPPY that today was the last after school practice.
I love the energy AND it's exhausting.
Instead of signing the collective bargaining bill, Abigail Spanberger submitted more than 20 amendments that had not been discussed during the session which essentially gut the bill and make it so that a politically appointed (by any future governor) board will be able to decide who can bargain, what can be bargained, etc. That means our union (which finally won bargaining rights after working for it for YEARS) could lose our rights depending on who the Governor is and who they appoint to a board. She removed the ability for arbitration. She delayed any effectiveness until 2030 and removed school-based administrators from having their own bargaining unit (that would now be up to the PERB to decide.) It would be better for the GA to reject her amendments and send the bill back to her, where she may refuse to sign it, than for it to be passed in this form. 🤬
Exactly this. I've seen so many of my HS FB acquaintances be absolutely terrible. No amount of engagement from me (or the small but loud other HS people who aren't assholes) has managed to move these people at all.
We continue to call out their racist BS and they continue to refuse to hear.
Yep. The kids who started kindergarten in fall 2020 are now sixth graders. I remember "meeting" so many of our current students via Zoom.
I haven’t heard it at my school yet, but I’m desperately waiting for it so I can explain that they do, in fact, know what a metaphor is and how to use it.
No politician, no academic, no movement organizer, no comedian-there is no role that the person is so irreplaceable that we must overlook sexual assault. Every one of them is replaceable. Good fucking riddance.
Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.
Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!

Front page of the NYT opinion section. All caps: Donald Trump says he will prosecute his enemies, order mass deportations, use soldiers against citizens, abandon allies, play politics with disasters. Believe him.
There is a wide, wide, wide, fucking huge gap between "not the perfect candidate" and the other choice.
Even the NYT, not the most astute of observers, had this to say prior to the election. He has done every damn one of those things and has now started a war he swore Harris would start.
On Sept. 11, a specialist went from room to room telling teachers what was happening. She told me to turn on my TV because "it was history." I refused. I was teaching 5th gr. They were 10, so I refused.
Today, for the first time, I wondered how much the Challenger played a role in that decision.
In January, 1986 I was in HS. We were having midterms, so I didn't watch the Challenger explosion live. My brother, a 3rd grader, was home sick. He's the one who told me.
I didn't believe him. I saw the replay over and over and over again. My sisters watched it at school that day.
Come on then, and remove him.
You must be new here.
Dr. Thomas has been shouting from the rooftops for months and years about other humans. Maybe if we, the collective, royal we, had listened to Black women to start with we'd be blissfully bored on this fine Tuesday afternoon rather than fearing what is coming tonight.
Let me say this plainly: Iranian children have as much of a right to live and thrive as American children.
Their babies MUST be as precious to me as my 6 niblings and my baby grandnib are IF I want them to have a future.
If I want a future for my kin AND humanity, I MUST act like it.
So must you.
Ohhh. I’ve written nothing. 😂 Not a thing. Perfectionism and time definitely getting in the way.
