It sounds daft because I never met her, but Britt Allcroft's death has really hit me in a way I didn't think it would. Without Britt, Thomas may never have left the pages of Awdry's books, and we'd not have the fandom that exists today on anywhere near the same scale. I honestly believe that the world's of railway modelling and heritage railways have a lot to thank the original creators of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends for, by regenerating interest in models and in steam railways for younger generations. It's a real shame that Thomas went the way it has done in recent years but I owe my career and passion for model making to Britt Allcroft, David Mitton and all the production team of the original model series. From the outpouring of love on social media today, I know I'm not alone. RIP Britt.
