like many, I avoided publicly complaining about staying home during the peak Covid years because I didn’t want to be associated with the MAGAs running around infecting everybody at the time.

but it’s been 6 years and I’d like to believe we can now talk about how it was both necessary AND hard.

Another reason I kinda wanted to talk about how hard COVID was for so many people: I think recalling those memories is HIGHLY relevant to the vibecession discussion.

I think it would be shocking if the horrid combination of lingering Covid trauma, profound uncertainty over the economic impact of AI, and Trump threatening to ignite nuclear war on a dementia-addled whim WASN’T producing absolutely rancid vibes - even if economic indicators are technically decent.

I think our society really is grossly underestimating how important visible accountability is for social cohesion.

May we re-learn this lesson.

Without starting a fight, may I just say that if you deeply and profoundly understand the need for human contact as a result of Covid, you might consider doing something to help the people still at high risk from Covid access it, instead of acting in ways that excludes and isolates them.

My dental hygienist and I were talking today about the sharp rise she's (anecdotally) seen in grinding/clenching over the last five or so years. Maybe that would be a telling metric to track, how many of us are cribbing like horses on a fencepost, alongside the economic numbers.

- still lots of adult rats at night (neighbor has unkempt ivy + everyone has avocado trees)
