The New testament is full of metaphorical references we translate into hell (Gehenna, Tartarus, Hades) but none of those are actual places, and the Hebrews who made up the groups spoke to certainly didn't believe Hades or Tartarus or any other Greek Mythos were real. It's quite likely more metaphor.

I could write multiple essays on this but to give you a brief overview. There was no concept of hell in the old testament, "Sin" leads to death itself. Satan is just a term given to angels who are tasked with accusations, in all reality there is no "Adversarial devil" as is often depicted today.
