Dougie Laughton, coach of Widnes Rugby League, sat in the dugout in the 1980s.
I was never one for “heroes” but Dougie Laughton was someone I would happily call one. As kids he made us feel proud to be from Widnes, to talk how we did and to carry ourselves with a swagger in our walk rather than a chip on our shoulder. Truly one of the greats of rugby league. RIP, lad.
