It's funny that they always pretend like they're the approachable ones even though they are a tiny minority compared to the people who think that they are bottomfeeding freaks from hell.
In contrast, when the gay rights cause first got going, the ideal was toleration. Gays and lesbians should have freedom from aggression and discrimination, but other people didn't have to like it. Over time, though, the big idea became "cultural change", meaning bringing about a widespread morality shift; and suddenly, everybody did have to like it. The concern became influencing what went on inside people's heads and policing what they said out loud; and self-ID provided the perfect vehicle.
